The Pawsox ended the 2009 season in 5th place in the IL North with a 61-82 record. The team that dominated the Ironpigs in 2008 was decimated by call ups and injuries. Always a big draw from local Red Sox fans, look for these to be some exciting games in 2010.
Who might appear at CCP:
Josh Reddick, OF – Splitting 2009 with AA Portland and Pawtucket, Reddick should have a shot at playing left field for the Red Sox this season. If not, he will be in a Pawsox uniform.
Ryan Kalish, OF – Reddick’s main competition for a spot on the Major League roster, Kalish also could show up in AAA.
Junichi Tazawa, RHP – The Red Sox want this guy to get more seasoning in the minors. Hopefully he will take it easy on the Pig hitters.

Daniel Bard got to throw in 16 games for the Pawsox last year before being called up to Boston in May. In his 16 innings of work in AAA he allowed only 6 hits (2 of them homers), walked just 5 and had 29 strikeouts. That’s a WHIP of just 0.69 and an average of nearly 2 strikeouts per inning pitched. It won’t be long until he’s closing games in the major leagues. The reason mentioned these stats is because those 2 HRs he allowed in AAA last year both came against the Ironpigs. One was a memorable blast on April 25th in the bottom of the 9th inning off the bat of Jason Donald that sent the game into extra innings. The Ironpigs eventually lost the game in the 10th (Majewski) but it was probably Donald’s biggest highlight of 2009. The other much less memorable shot came in Pawtucket on April 18th off the bat of Jeremy Slayden who for me was probably the biggest disappointment of the 2009 season.
I remember the game where Donald tied it up and the rest needs not be mentioned again. Hopefully Gary has better luck in Houston. Slayden was a tough call. I heard through the grapevine that his biggest obstacle was the mental aspect of the game which we saw first hand how it hindered his play. The Phillies had high hopes for him.
