More Nostalgia / Memories

A few days ago I watched the classic Bad News Bears movie starring Walter Matthau and Tatum Oneil. Thinking back to that time gives you the shivers to think about how times have changed. From a little league coach having kids serve him martinis while driving them around in a convertible without seatbelts to Tanner’s description of the diversity of the team really makes you think… where have those times gone?

Morganna with George Brett during the 79 All Star game as Phillies catcher Bob Boone looks on.

One of my favorite sports mammories, err memories is of Morganna Roberts also known as “The Kissing Bandit.” She would somehow find her way into televised games and run to that team’s star player, planting a big smooch before being escorted off by security.

Max PatkinAnother classic baseball personality, Max Patkin, had his glory years during my childhood. I remember seeing the Clown Prince of Baseball at the Reading Phillies in the mid 80’s. Even then he all over the field entertaining the fans. He passed away in 1999. We have seen his heir to the title, Myron Noodleman, at Coca Cola Park but he just doesn’t compare to Patkin.

Rainbow wigs were fun in the 80's

Think of sports in the 70’s and 80’s and you are likely to think of Rollen Stewart. Stewart showed up at just about every big game in the world wearing a rainbow wig jumping around waving a John 3:16 sign. He always seemed to know the camera angles and literally showed up everywhere. His story ends badly, if you’re interested.. look it up.

Did you see the 2009 Ironpigs highlights video on youtube? You’re on it at about the 1:11 mark.

  2. I did see that. They actually played this video at the Phillies Caravan charity event. The guy sitting next to me almost fell off his chair when he saw me in the video. Good times man.
