Game Notes 4/15/10 Pigs 4 – Redwings 1

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The Ironpigs got that all important first home win tonight defeating the Redwings 4-1 behind a solid start by Nate Bump and 2 innings from Scott Mathieson.

There could be a few theories to why the Ironpigs won tonight.

– The Pigs have won each time Cody Ransom has hit a home run.
– I was in line purchasing my first All Star sandwich when Wise and Mayberry hit back to back homeruns,
– The Ironpigs always have a big inning when there is a Tike on the Mike kid doing the player announcements.

Who knows.. who cares! THE PIGS WON!

Plus’s
Wise and Mayberry hit back to back Homeruns. That’s always exciting!

Scott Mathieson hit 97 and then the radar gun mysteriously stopped working. He was throwing some heat and I wonder if the Phillies want to keep the scouts guessing?

Andy Tracy went 2 for 4 and scored 1 of the Ironpigs runs!

Nate Bump pitched 7 solid innings scattering 6 hits for just one run!

That All Star sandwich was great! By far the best I’ve had at Coca Cola Park.. move over Philly Cheesesteak Fries.. there’s a new sherriff in town.

Nate Bump makes the list again with another “almost” great play. While fielding a swinging bunt, Bump jumped off the mound like a cat and threw to first while falling. Andy Tracy almost had the tag but the runners helmet hit the glove and the ball popped out.

Boo’s

Not really a boo, but a sad to see. Duffy’s 7 game hitting streak came to an end tonight.

Jaques Jones of the Redwings made two diving catches that most would have caught on the run. Maybe he’s got a dramatic flair but he made them more exciting than they had to be.

More plus’s than boo’s tonight! Good stuff people… good stuff!

Whoops, I think I caught a mistake. “Andy Tracy went 2 for 4 and scored 2 of the Ironpigs runs!” If the Ironpigs scored 4 runs and 3 of them were homers by Ransom, Wise and Mayberry….. But, if Andy Tracy ever starts pulling those long flyouts to straightaway center he’d hit 40 homeruns.

A guy came over to my section tonight and told me the next voice you hear on the PA will be his 9 year old daughter. She was the tike on the mike and he said she was really nervous. I told him I hoped she would have all easy names to say and he laughed. Then I checked and saw the names would be Wise, Mayberry and Hoover.

That 97 on the radar tonight looked a heck of a lot better than the 83 and 84 that Zagurski was putting up on Wednesday.

  2. You got me! Good catch. I chalk up typos to my fat fingers. They sometimes press keys that I don’t intend to 🙂

    Woo Hoo John Mayberry

IronPigs could use 20 HR and .275 from him this year

    1. Mathieson’s fun to watch. I fear we may not have him much longer.
    2. I’m not really too geeked out to see Phils’ rehab pitchers as I’m not sure how much it will help the ‘Pigs. I’m looking at you, J.C. You too, Brad.
    3. I told you the All Star was good.
    4. I was on my way to the Plaza to find a Pretzel Burger when we stopped at the Pizza stand to get PB&J for the kiddo. I had considered Jaindl Turkey at the Pig Stop too, but decided to just go for a toasted deli at the Pizza Stand. They all looked good, but I settled on ham and cheese on a pretzel bun.
    5. So if you’re wondering about number four, here it is: Pigs are 3-0 when I have pork products DURING the game. Also, 3-0 when Cody Ransom hits a homer? Hmm, we can keep this up all season Cody. Who’s gonna blink first? (confession: I do like the free roast beef every game now!)
    6. Looks like maybe Andy’s starting to warm up. I probably jinxed him by thinking he was half way to a natural cycle last night. That triple’s gonna be tough to get for him anyway, though.
    7. I’m not superstitious or anything, but Dan, next time we need a homer, go get in line for an All Star.
    8. Moving down in the order seems to agree with Mayberry. Coincidence? Not sure.
    9. Seems like the other team is always making great plays in the outfield. It’s fun to watch, of course, but once that stops, there should be even more runs.
    10. Here’s hoping we can stay dry tonight.
