Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman is slated to start at Coca Cola Park on Wednesday. The Ironpigs concessions, never to miss an opportunity, have brought out a Cuban sandwich for this night and this night only.. (unless they sell a lot of them.. then expect it to return)
The sales gimmick is that they will charge $4.63 per sandwich.. which happens to be Chapman’s current ERA! With Chapman getting shelled in his last outing against Rochester last week, his ERA jumped to 4.63 from 2.84. Too bad he didn’t pitch better against the Redwings or we would have had a cheap Cuban sandwich.. or would we?
The Ironpig’s website boasts of the Cuban sandwich as being available at only the Pizza stand (also home of the Pretzel roll sandwiches) and that the cost will be $4.63 + sales tax the final total being $5.00 even.
$5.00 even. Someone needs to get this to their statistician. Last I checked sales tax was $0.06 per dollar.
4.63 x .06 = 4.90
Where does the extra 10 cents go? Where? Yeah I know.. I know. I know all too well. ๐
If anyone tries the Cuban.. let us know how it is.

Did they increase the sales tax to 8% without telling anyone? $4.63 X .08 (.37) = $5.00. Or maybe after the 6% sales tax there’s a 10ยข service charge added on?
2 all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun? Uh, not. More like roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, mustard, mayonnaise and pickles on a hearty steak roll. I’m not big on mayo on anything but I’m tempted especially since I sit so close to the pizza stand. They also sell an apple thing at the pizza stand that tastes very similar to the hot apple pie at McD’s.
NO RAIN! I’d hate to have Chapman’s start moved to Thursday morning. 10:30 AM may be a bit early for a Cuban. It may also be too early for one of those sandwiches! ๐
Yeah, something tells me that ‘free cigar’ night wouldn’t really go over too well. I do know the Scotch sales at the club-level bar would increase…
I noticed a tweet a few weeks ago when the “smoking” coffee cup was announced a tweeter commented, “I thought CCP was a smoke free environment?”
I think the state revenuers increased taxes that apply to entertainment venues, which would sure as heck apply to Da Coke… or was that the city or county?
I did some research with that a while back and contacted my state rep’s office. Any current entertainment tax does not include sporting events and the stuff that passed last year would affect only the specific “zone” where a potential hockey arena would be built. More specifically a few hundred square yard area for that arena and any businesses that open a certain distance. Coca Cola Park was not included with that. I wrote my congressman and that’s the answer I got ๐
P.S. Don’t forget to vote tomorrow! ha
woo hoo! big win. tired team for tomorrow night in the rain, I imagine. ‘Grats to Bocock. I was hoping he’d lean into one and take one for the team–but a sac fly will do.
Sounds like Valdez might be on his way back…
We can only hope Valdez clears waivers.
Valdez has to clear waivers first. Hopefully that will happen. 750-775 miles and 12 1/2 hours on a bus with rain in the forecast lie ahead. I doubt the Ironpigs will be taking batting practice tomorrow, in fact I wouldn’t be a bit surprised.
MLB Rule 3.10 (a): The manager of the home team shall be the sole judge as to whether a game shall be started because of unsuitable weather conditions or the unfit condition of the playing field, except for the second game of a doubleheader.
Don’t be surprised if Huppert takes advantage of that rule if there is sufficient rain Tuesday afternoon.
