The Pigs lost again last night in extra innings. Joe Savery went 6 innings throwing 96 pitches with 56 of them being strikes. Makes you wonder where the starting pitcher’s control has been the last few games.
Thompson, Duffy and Sellers each had a 2 hit game.
Andy Tracy was 0 for 1 with 4 walks.. one of the intentional. Looks like he’s back. Let’s hope he stays himself for a while.
The Ironpigs are now again a league worst 18 wins 31 losses.

The cowardly Clippers didn’t want to pitch to Achilles.
The IronPigs # 5 has to do better than 1 for 4 following up when teams want to duck Andy for, as we saw, Ransom’s two-run HR was not enough.
What is the record for one-run losses in a season?…the IronPigs are sure to own it by year’s end!
π
I can live with three runs / six innings from the starter every game out, particularly if the bullpen puts up a goose egg the other three.
If the IronPigs offense can’t generate four runs, the team do not deserve to win.
As far as records for most 1 run losses, I only checked the past 7 years of major league baseball and came up with the 2005 Cleveland Indians. Their overall record was 68-94 while going 22-36 in 1 run games. No matter how you look at it, you have to lose a lot of games to qualify for this record. It’s one I wish the Ironpigs wouldn’t be in contention to achieve. I’m not sure but I think the Ironpigs have lost 16 one run games this year.
Another statistic I found interesting was team age. There are 14 teams in the International League. In league batting, the #1 youngest team is the SWB Yankees with the average age of their batters at 25.3. The 14th, and oldest team is the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs. The average age of their batters is 30.3. Syracuse ranked 13th at 29.2.
The Columbus Clippers pitching staff ranks #1 as the youngest pitching staff with an average age of 25.1. Bringing up the rear at #14 is the pitching staff of the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs with an average age of 29.2. Buffalo is #13 at 28.4.
If the season were to end right now, the team with the youngest batters (SWB) and the team with the youngest pitching staff (Columbus) would both make the playoffs while the team with the oldest batters and oldest pitching staff has the worst record in the league. I see no quick fix for this mainly because the Phillies depleted their ‘upper’ farm system in the Lee & Halladay trades leaving most of their best prospects (other than Brown) at Clearwater or Lakewood.
Josh Fogg was assigned from extended spring training in Florida to the Reading Phillies today. John Ennis was shipped down to Williamsport.
Will Dewayne Wise ever play again? Why wasn’t he put on the 7 day DL so he could have been replaced on the roster? I don’t think Wise has played since that awkward slide into homeplate on May 19th. Even Mike Spidale would have been better than playing with a 23 man roster. Hopefully Wise will be back in soon.
PigsRadio on Twitter reported that Wise took batting practice today. Who knows on why he wasn’t placed on DL..
Hey!
Spidale, clearly not the greatest player to ever grace the Park, did alright for the IronPigs last year (31 ga, 0 HR 7 RBI, .289 avg, 5-7 sb)
Wise — 36 ga, .272 avg
Duffy — 42 ga, .243 avg
π
As for why was Wise NOT placed on the Disabled List despite not having appeared in a ballgame since May 19 —
This is the minor leagues.
Things like winning and a full, 24-man roster for each and every game are surplus to requirements.
Family fun and free red balloons — that is what it is all about.
