Well they lost 6 in a row now. In game 1 of the doubleheader in Toledo today the Pigs took a 3 to 1 lead into the 7th inning (the final inning of AAA doubleheader games) and an error by Melvin Dorta could have ended the game but it resulted in Drew Carpenter being pulled from the game for the most solid pitcher the Pigs have. Scott Mathieson came in with two runners on and promptly gave up a 2 run double followed by a walk off 2 run homerun to take his first loss of the 2010 season.
Sellers and Dorta both had a 2 hit game and Dorta had the Pig’s lone RBI.
Game 2 didn’t start any better. Brian Mazone allowed 2 runs to cross in the first inning. He later allowed another run and the Pigs only mustered 3 hits for the game. Pigs lose 0 to 3.
The Ironpigs are now hitting .245 as a team.
So what to say after a few days like this… who really knows.
Scott Mathieson has shown himself vulnerable to the Ironpig’s recent run of misplay.
The starting pitching staff is still doing a decent job. Relief has been doing ok.
The offense is struggling even though Andy Tracy has found his bat of old.
I wonder if the Pigs have been watching the Phillies play. Are they trying to be like the big league team? With the way everyone on the Ironpigs are playing there is no threat to a Phillies player or even bench player. No fear of replacement.. could that be the problem in Philly and in the Lehigh Valley?
We do hear a lot that if the Phillies succeed that the entire organization succeeds but if they fail does that mean the Pigs have to fail too? Heck, Reading is getting walked over a lot lately too. With a 21 and 28 record they are showing signs of this years raincloud looming overhead.
For injury updates, Todd Zolecki posted on his Twitter account that Placido Polanco is not expected to play until Friday… Jimmy Rollins will not be recalled from the Disabled list when eligible on Sunday and that JA Happ may be looking at a rehab start soon.
DeWayne Wise was not in tonight’s lineup but it was reported that he took batting practice today. Hopefully we see him back soon.

I think Paul Hoover must have caught the virus while he was with the Phillies and brought it down to the Ironpigs. Really weird! At least it hasn’t trickled down to the Clearwater Threshers (30-22) who had 4 players make the allstar team in their league. Three of their allstars are pitchers. These are the four:
Austin Hyatt: SP–6-3
Justin De Fratus: RP–1-0 with 10 Saves
Trevor May: SP–43 1/3 IP with 65 strikeouts
Cody Overbeck: Third Base–.332-11-40.
10-12 on May 1st.
18-33 on June 1st. π¦
21 losses in May matches the number of losses SWB and Syracuse have all year.
Last year June 1st was Mousepad Giveaway Day at CCP and the Ironpigs won, improving their record to 20-30. I’m not sure about this one but I think the 2008 Ironpigs had 19 wins on June 1st but also had more than 33 losses.
Rich Thompson does a lot of things well but since he’s been in the lineup everyday because of the DeWayne Wise injury his batting average has gone from .337 to .286 in 13 days. His solo homerun on Sunday was his 1st RBI since May 2nd.
Josh Fogg started for Reading tonight and lasted just 1 2/3 innings. He allowed 7 runs, 4 of them earned. He didn’t get the loss as the Phillies rallied to tie the game 8-8 after 4. They eventually lost 12-10 despite getting 19 hits. That’s almost 4 games worth of hits for the Ironpigs. Jason Anderson was the losing pitcher allowing 4 earned runs in 3 1/3 innings. Domonic Brown was 4-6 with a HR, upping his average to .314. Tagg Bozied also homered as did John Suomi.
I definately have to agree. I hate to say it, but I think Brian Schneider may have been the cause of it. Schneider’s bat was cold and they lost all 3 games he played. As soon as he went back up to Philly, the Phillies started playing horrible.
I have said it before and I will say it again…the Phillies organization needs to do some trades/let people go/etc, with the Pigs and R-Phils. I don’t know how much more I can watch of them loosing. Ok…yes, you know we will be there, but I odn’t know how many other people will be there if they keep loosing. It makes you wonder…
I must reeeeeally be a fan… when I’m home I could flip the radio over to Phils or Yanks, but I still cling to the IronPigs, even if the radio feed is flaky and I have to turn it off for a moment (BTW, did I win the trivia? I think I did π )
I sent Provence a don’t-worry tweet…
Trivia Win! Nice!
Time to call Dominic Brown up. I hope the offensive virus hasn’t hit him. Do something to shake things up. This season has been a big disappointment and I agree with everyone else, it’s been hard watching and listening to them lose. But like all the die hards I’ll still be there to root em on. Makes you wonder how many more will come out if this keeps up especially after the All Star game. Keep the Faith folks! Rock n Roll!
Family entertainment and free red balloons are what is THE only thing that matters in minor league baseball.
The IronPigs actually winning games is surplus to requirements.
Keith Groller can, has and probably will again explain it all better than I am capable of.
