Well, this losing streak has its first casualty. We also have an answer to why DeWayne Wise wasn’t placed on the Disabled List for his recent injury.
As heard on the broadcast of today’s game, details still unclear, but it appears Wise elected to leave the team and pursue other options out there.
Looking at the Phillies and the Ironpigs.. you really can’t blame him. Wise could easily be on a Major League roster and running a 4 way competition for an outfield spot on the losingest team in AAA baseball would not be a treat for anyone.
It’s a shame really, he seemed to be the only outfielder who could muster a smile out there in Coca Cola Park’s outfield.
Good luck and farewell DeWayne Wise!

I’ll miss him. He was really cool man. Farewell. We hardly knew ya, best of luck to him!! Like you said, can’t blame him one bit.
I’ll chime in with the same. Loved watching him play. It’s not exactly the same feeling as I had with Koplove… Wise should find ML success somewhere.
Can I be the first to say it? An opening for Dom Brown?
I don’t think we’ll see Brown until late August and then will lose him to the Phils for Sept. callups.
The old escape clause.
Brown at AA Reading (.314 avg, 3 HR 10 RBI, 22 bb, 33 so, 156-49 ab/h) was striking out a great deal earlier in the season but seems to have adjusted.
Too soon to call him up, Brown still needs more seasoning at AA level.
AA Reading Phillies
Berry — .184 avg, 0 HR 5 RBI, 32 ga
Mahar — .244 avg, 2 HR 13 RBI, 43 ga
Gillies — .247 avg, 2 HR 6 RBI, 24 ga
Stavisky — .267 avg, 2 HR 7 RBI, 35 ga
Spidale — .276 avg, 2 HR 21 RBI, 46 ga
Bozied — .277 avg, 7 HR 30 RBI, 46 ga
“The old escape clause.”
And either Matt or Robby mentioned it as a “June 1st option” or some-such, meaning the team would have known of it prior to the game this morning (2). Could this be what sparked them to all that scoring?? 🙂
I wonder if Ransom has an escape clause?
I think you made a mistake on Domonic Brown’s numbers. They should be .314 with 10 homeruns and 29 RBIs. Looks like you listed his triples as his homeruns and his homeruns as his RBIs.
Brown’s SLG% of .615 is over 100 points higher than the next highest Ironpigs player and his 1.008 OPS is WAY ahead of any regular at AAA. They’re also higher than the SLG and OPS Michael Taylor had when he got called up last July. Brown is ready now but I doubt we’ll see him before the allstar game.
OK, fine, I just wanted to be the first to speculate. I’ve got mini-groups of friends in town for games this weekend: 9 from Philly for the Friday night game, and 8 from Boston for the Saturday night game. I’d love to see Brown, but I can wait….
I don’t have a problem with Spidale. If we get Bozied, then maybe he can get a turn at third. And what’s Polanco’s injury status? I hear that kid in Clearwater’s pretty good. Could we see a ‘move-up’ at third???
I can’t blame him one bit. He was always one of the first ones out of the clubhouse and was always smiling. He is a good player and can definately make it on a MLB roster. I wish him nothing but the best.
I just discovered via the most recent Baseball America blog that the Washington Nationals released Eric Bruntlett. He may have had the June 1st opt out clause in his contract too.
Thanks man! Good stuff!
Decal,
Without going back to look, that is probably what happened.
The numbers I was wanting to see most for Brown was the strikeout ratio and whether or not he is improving on in that area.
10 RBI does seem a little low for this point in the season for a guy who plays everyday and hits .314, now that I think about it.
🙂
