Transactions 6-3-10

Thanks to our friend Decal for keeping us up to date on transaction!

Gustavo Chacin has been recalled to the Diamondbacks.

Gary Majewski has been reinstated from the DL.

Cedrick Bowers was optioned by the A’s to AAA.

Pat Burrell signed with the Giants.

Tampa Bay optioned CCP fan favorite Matt Joyce to AAA Durham.

The Nationals released Eric Bruntlett

Nelson Figueroa has cleared waivers and accepted assignment to the Pigs.

So we lost Wise – Gained Tavares and Figueroa so it seems we have a full roster again.. or do we?

  1. That’s 25… someone’s gonna have to be moved.

  2. OK, now I KNOW I’m a freakin’ fan…

When I saw Joyce going to Da Bulls, I went straight to the team’s site to order a single ticket to the morning game in the Durham series (July 29th), to which I can (barring a catastrophe) take the bus.

Trouble is™, I must have clicked the wrong link somewhere, and now have a single ticket for the night after, the 30th.

It’s not impossible… it’s a night when I don’t have to cook for the folks… but without someone else that already has a ticket going, I can’t get there, or if I do try to go by bus, won’t be able to get back home.

I know the rules… Pigs won’t exchange. And I don’t want to just go get another ticket for, say, my big brother… he could have something else planned.

As Provence would say, oy vey…

Chacin = Astros, right? He hit his homer Monday vs. the Nats, although he (among others) didn’t pitch terribly well and the ‘stros got creamed.

All Star Packs available at the ticket office starting Monday 6/14.

I know who I would move next, Huppert. I know he can’t hit, pitch, or field, but we are going on three years of the same old thing. I don’t think he can motivate anyone. Time for a change.

    • Good point. We rarely see Greg Gross coaching first base anymore. I wonder if it is time to move to a new approach. As far as player development the latest prospects to filter through the Ironpigs haven’t done great. JA Happ being an exception but his stint in 2008 was brief in terms of his maturing and rising above the mediocre at the top level. Jason Donald is doing ok, Lou Marson is impatiently awaiting the arrival of Carlos Santana and Michael Taylor has been with Oakland’s AAA team this summer. Even Jason Jaramillo, tagged as a top Phillies prospect a few years ago, is playing in Pittsburgh but isn’t the superstar that was imagined. Sure the Phillies traded the young guys away but a great coach will make the middle of the pack thrive.

The pace of the pack is set by the leader.

Huppert is, for the most part, laconic and laid-back.

He is not the fiery, aggressive Billy Martin-type. Of course, that type of style is frowned upon by society, in general, these days.

Huppert has no sense of urgency about him and I have always found it rather symbolic that, when the IronPigs urgently need a run or an out, they, traditionally, get nothing.

Free red balloons only go so far.
