Stutes Promoted to Lehigh Valley

Thanks to a text message from our Player Liaison and the Phuture Phillies Blog we have learned that right hander Michael Stutes has been promoted to the Ironpigs to fill the spot vacated when Scott Mathieson was called to the Phillies.

In Reading Stutes was 3 and 0 with a 3.79 ERA in 35.2 innings. He posted 37 K’s compared to 21 Walks.

Yes, another young arm! I like it.

Stutes is a decent pickup. I was anticipating Ehren Wasserman to be Mathieson’s replacement. Stutes pitched in 25 games for Reading this year, all in relief. Prior to 2010 he was used exclusively as a starter. I’d assume the Phillies have high expectations for Stutes since in 2008 he was pitching for the Oregon State Beavers and just 2 years later he’s in AAA. He moved from low A Lakewood in ’08 to AA Reading in ’09, skipping right over A+ Clearwater.
