The initial shock of Rich Thompson being sent to the Reading Phillies has passed… sorry Jimmy T, we’ll all miss him… but the excitement of having Domonic Brown patrolling the outfield at Coca Cola Park is overwhelming!
Who is Chris Aguila?- Aguila was obtained via a trade from the Toronto organization. He spent most of his minor league career (1997-2006) in the Florida minor league system and the past couple years has found him with the Pirates, Mets, Blue Jays and even in Japan for a little while. With AAA Las Vegas he was hitting .275 in 44 games, 4 HR and 21 RBI. No word on what the compensation to the Blue Jays is, but chances are we got this guy for free.
We also lost Sellers to Reading. Not a huge surprise, as losing Maza was not either.
Rich Thompson, who has been playing with the Ironpigs since 2008 is a shocking, yet not unexpected, loss to the team. Keep in mind that Philadelphia controls our rosters and don’t aim your angst at the staff here in Allentown. Thompson is a great guy and a great player and should return to the Pig’s lineup one day. It’s just a shame it had to be three weeks before the All Star Game. Granted, our votes are only 1/3 of what counts so Rich probably would have been placed in reserve, if anything but it is a serious tip of the hat from the Lehigh Valley to one of our favorites.
So Pig fans.. get ready for Domonic Brown! The tall lanky outfielder is one of those players you just sit back and wait for something great to happen. I really can’t say much more than just.. get ready for this show!
oink

Woo Hoo!
I’m not sure what to make of Aguila, exactly, though. Also, seems like our pitching staff is on shaky ground, with Savery and Duckworth kind of inconsistent as starters. Sad to see Figgy go–I wasn’t the biggest fan of his in the majors, but loved seeing him with the ‘Pigs. He did great for us, and was really cool to my kids at the autograph day (as we joked about him not having a card in the ironpigs card set…)
Rich Thompson has ties to Reading from growing up, so there is a bright side.
Thompson was a very solid player for the IronPigs and a class act, as well, these past two and a half years.
The good soldier will definitely be missed…
…hopefully, he can be recalled.
Domonic Brown was used exclusively in right field at Reading this year. If that’s where the Phillies want him, then Mayberry has to move to center or left. The Ironpigs almost always had 4 outfielders on their roster. Now they have 5. Who is their backup middle infielder?
Aren’t the Ironpigs still a player short?
Gone: Figueroa, Maza, Sellers, Thompson
Here: Brown, Aguila, Dobbs.
Well, unless there’s a player to be named involved from either of the other deals…
I am very happy to see Dominic Brown here. Thompson, beyond being a decent minor league player, is a coach-in-waiting for the Phillies or some other system. His willingness to take one for the organization will probably net him an eventual minor league coaching job as he shows he is a loyal lieutenant.
And Huppert is still here! All these moves and this statue is still with us. Does this guy have something on the top Phillies brass? He is horrible, yet still the manager(in title only). A blind guy can do better than him. Enough already!
Huppert is still here because he’s a good soldier. He does exactly what the Phillies tell him to do, nothing more, nothing less.
The Ironpigs should get a glimpse of an old friend this weekend as Durham just activated J.J. Furmaniak. In 62 at bats with Durham he is hitting .323. That’s nearly 100 points better than he hit when he was with the Ironpigs. Another old friend, R.J. Swindle, is on the Durham roster and has an ERA of 0.77 in 23 1/3 innings.
Lineup has Brown batting 6th and playing right field. Dobbs is the DH and is hitting 2nd. Mayberry is in left.
Agreed Dan we’ll miss Thompson but in the meantime excited to see Brown up with the Pigs.
Luis Maza is now teammates with Gary Majewski at Round Rock. Maza started at second base tonight, batting second. Majewski threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
Also on that team is Casey Daigle.. husband of Softball legend Jennie Finch Daigle.
