As of yesterday, the Ironpig’s record of 44 wins 64 losses exactly matched the 2008 team’s record at 108 games into the season. They celebrated by losing their seventh consective game in walk off fashion in Buffalo last night. A few of the Noise Nation made the trip to Buffalo and hopefully were able to have fun regardless of the final score.
I remember that 2008 season. We oinked. We cheered. They still lost.
“It’s their first season.. give them a break.”
“2009 will be different”
In 2009 we heard…
“It’s a whole new team… we lost prospects to trades”
“2010 will be different”
This losing is getting old quick. I can’t imagine the players are enjoying it. Comments posted by the Hog Blog a week or so ago kind of sum it up.. when Dave Huppert made a comment that most of the older players are there to pad stats and collect a paycheck.
What else could there be?
We all know the age old line that the Phillies control everything.. yes yes yes.. I know, but three straight years of losing. This year seems worse than the other 2 as the games have been close. The Ironpigs have lost 18 one run games.. one run. Actually we should say 2 runs as the team is 1-8 in extra innings games. Also still haven’t won a game on a Friday. (The one win they had was a suspended game that was not completed on a Friday) Could the team be distracted by the excitement of Friday night fireworks?
Distractions.. that makes me wonder. Are the players distracted? Could the circus show going on around and in between the game have an effect on the players? I would hope not..
One thing that I’ve noticed throughout the last 3 years is game times. It is rare for the Ironpigs to complete a game under 3 hours. It is more common that the games last 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Do between inning stunts and advertisements stretch out the warm up session causing the game to last longer?
I will still love my pork racers and whack-a-intern contests but I wonder how any of the players feel about it.
That’s all I have for today.
OinK!

Amaro said something to the extent of “we need to replenish the farm system”. Are they accomplishing that? From my vantage point it doesn’t seem that way.
Remember that, Ransom, Brown, and Valdez are having their coffee with the Phils. Also The Pigs have had their share of injuries, with Tracy, Dorta and Mayberry all on the DL at some point during the season. This doesn’t/didn’t make for a season of victories. Not executing, and no clutch hits add to their woes.
Distractions at a baseball game .. .. The Nationals have a presidents race during the middle of an inning, the Phils have the Phanatic, etc. These guys are professionals, and I doubt they give the ballpark antics a second thought.
It’s minor league baseball! Come for the game, stay for the fireworks 😉
And those in the minors at least should be explained-to about the between-innings stuff when they get there, given that it’s much closer to them in the smaller ballpark; college and HS games… except possibly if they’re played at a pro stadium… don’t always have that stuff going on.
I’m getting tired of the loosing, I can only imagine what the players feel like. After this past weekend, I am happy to say that baseball season (at least for us IronPigs fans) is almost over. I have never said this before, but I honestly don’t know how many more games I want to go to this season.
Ok…I may still be just a little bummed about Duffy being released….it’s the anger talking. lmao.
I know…it’s baseball. Move on and get over it. 🙂
Enough rambling from me. I wish I could blame it on the painpills, but haven’t been on them since Saturday…
I hear ya about Duffy’s release- So sad 😦
All I know is that I, personally, do not know a damn thing about minor league baseball and, the Philadelphia Phillies are all that matter.
It’s been drummed into my head 10,000 times — I finally got the story straight.
Woo Hoo!
A six-year old kid playing tee-ball has to cope with distractions of the field.
Food for thought.
off the field, that is…
Most of the best Phillies minor league prospects (especially pitchers) are now assigned to lower level teams. It may be some time before they get to Lehigh Valley. As in the case of legitimate prospect Domonic Brown, the Phillies organization does not normally rush prospects to AAA nor keep them there long when they do arrive. This is nothing new and has nothing to do with the Ironpigs between innings stunts and contests. Basically the same ownership people run the local organizations at Lakewood, Reading and Lehigh Valley and any longer term Phillies Minor Leaguer players should be well accustomed to the “carnival” before they get to Coca Cola Park.
“but I wonder how any of the players feel about it.”
I’ve talked to four of the players about it, all pitchers currently on the roster, and they all said they think the distractions are stupid and that fans of the Pigs while supportive are more coming to watch the sideshow than the baseball.
“Distractions.. that makes me wonder. Are the players distracted? Could the circus show going on around and in between the game have an effect on the players? I would hope not”
IMHO the players that I’ve met and talked to on this year’s roster, of which there would be nine, are not distracted they are just going thru the motions because they know they are on a very untalented team that is quasi-poorly coached and that pretty much all of them have no chance at making the Big Club so they are there to collect a paycheck and get drunk after games. (If you don’t believe me go to Pitchers, Mezza Luna, and Pig Pen after games you find most of the single players and some of the married ones)
