Man, even Shane Victorino patrolling the outfield last night couldn’t make up for the losing.
Carpenter got shelled. It was awful. The Pigs really got roasted again.
Poor Ironpig intern Morris had to sleep on the field last night.
If you hadn’t heard, the Ironpigs announced that a staff member will sleep on the field until the Pigs win another game. Each time they lose, another staff member is added to the campout. I hope they brought their sleeping bags….
In fact, there are rumblings within the Noise Nation that if the Pigs lose tonight.. we will be rooting for Pawtucket on Thursday. The thought is.. the team we root for will lose… so who knows. This is just depressing.
So as I expect the crowd (that surged around us in right center field last night) will return the next two games.. we will be actively creating fun for ourselves. Keep in mind we choose family friendly and safe fun.
There will be another addition to the Noise Nation family on Thursday. I hear that the egg is about to hatch!
Anyways.. on a completely different note, I’d like to restate the purpose of this blog.
The purpose of this blog is to be informative and fun.. from a fan’s perspective. That fan… would be me. If it interests me.. I’ll post it.
I’m not a professional writer, I don’t have any training.. (If you couldn’t already tell from my spelling and grammar), and I don’t look to go anywhere beyond where I’ve gone with this blog. If I wanted to get a media pass and gloat about talking to players in the locker room or enjoy a few plates full of free food in the press box.. I would. I just don’t want to. Being a sportswriter isn’t my dream, it’s just something I do to distract myself while this team continues to lose.
Simply put. If you like it.. cool, keep reading. If you don’t, well.. you’re free to continue reading too, or not to.
I think everyone could use a good distraction for a team like this. In 2008 we said, “Well they can only get better” in hopes of improvement. Boy were we proved wrong. At least we’re not Rochester…
OinK!

Last night I was cheering loud for Buffalo, Mike Cervenak in particular, that’s how bad it has gotten. But Mike C. is a personal fav of mine as he is with others. I too am feeling the wind out of my sails watching this team. In the spirit of what the staff is doing, I’m thinking about doing what I did in ’08, refusing to shave til the Pigs win! This could get as ugly as the Pigs playing has become. One final note, Dan I love this blog! It is very infomative and a good way to express what’s going on from a fan’s prespective. I get alot of info from this blog. Keep up the good work!
Oink!
Thanks Jimmy! Come out to visit us again soon!
Does WordPress provide you with anything in the way of statistics as to how many people visit this site, how often, where they’re from?
I can find pretty much everything I need stat wise and with a few tricks I can find out who is posting what. π
The irony of this particular fiasco is, if you, Kehl, don’t tell me about Housenick’s blog post…I would not know anything of this.
This (and Bacon & Biscuits) is the only source of IronPigs information that has not left me thoroughly fed up with the BS that seems to go hand in hand with the IronPigs.
So, once again my opinion ends up all by itself.
Oh well, at least I am heavily experienced.
Here is another opinion of mine that will find no friends :
IT IS NOT AN ACCIDENT THAT THE IRONPIGS GET STOMPED ON ALL THE TIME.
IronPigs won’t stand up for themselves, won’t fight, EVER!
Anytime, anyplace, anywhere and for any reason. I find it all disgusting, but I am sure I am alone.
Beside, whatever…the IronPigs give away free red balloons (and sometimes, I hear, blue ones, too).
What more does one need to know?
Wow I’m not online for a few days and look what I miss.
The Pigs are downright terrible right now and it’s really time for us fans to boo and show our displeasure. 90% of the Park however sits on their hands and chats with their girlfriends or boyfriends. I’m not saying people shouldn’t go to Pigs games on dates but the amount of young people just standing around and talking is rediculous. And that’s coming from a 20 year old. The adults just go to drink. It’s downright pathetic the crowd that files into CCP on a nightly basis.
Guy next to me pounded on one of the seats (as a form of cheering the team) when the Pigs took the field Monday night and the guy a row in front and 5 seats to the left told him if he did that again he’d ask the usher to throw him out. I’ve clapped for the Pigs throwing a guy out at first and people turn around and give me dirty looks.
Not that the team is any good, but a good 9,000 of the people in that stadium on a NIGHTLY BASIS just do NOT CARE. And I’m sure they think they’re big Phillies fans.
As for this whole Howard at Dorney fiasco, who really cares who mentioned who. This blog, and I hope my blog, are the only places to go for un-spun IronPigs information coming from real fans who care about the team and want to see them at least do their best. Right now we aren’t getting that, and I’m not happy. LOOSE CANNON, I’m with you.
PS: I believe we are still down 1 roster spot aren’t we? Way to go Ruben, you keep looking at all those 08 WS Champs T-shirts and getting starting pitchers. Our bullpen and bench are great.
Not to mention our AAA team.
Go Pigs, I’ll be CHEERING them on tonight.
The “library” feel has been there for a while. Not sure if you remember the whole horns fiasco. I’ve heard all kinds of excuses about why not to make noise. My way of getting back at them… create a fan club called “Noise Nation” and hand out bells. You’re welcome to hang out with us. We always cheer.
As far as the credit goes, IT IS something and here is why :
In the world of Academia and Journalism, giving proper credit for ideas you have seen and information you have gathered is considered to be VERY IMPORTANT.
I am not in the world of Academia or Journalism. And neither is Kehl, which is a large part of why he can afford to brush this off as no big deal. So then, why should ANYBODY+ care?
BECAUSE
I have a mom who holds a PhD and once taught at Yale University before going into private business. I have a brother who was a political editor with C-NET for a long time and was also the Press Secretary for the United States National Rugy Team (twice, and, yeah, we have a national rugby team). Nowadays he is a VP of Communications for an evil, greedy, exploitative CORPORATION that seeks to steal all your money and wants your children to starve and die.
Both my mother and brother would be extremely disappointed to know that Mrs. Housenick could not be bothered to “tip her cap” to a lowly, nobody blogger.
Because it undermines all the lectures about doing the right thing all the time no matter what the actual circumstances. In this case, the fundamental notion of giving proper credit, which, I hear, is a big thing in the world of Academia and Journalism.
Perhaps I heard wrong.
Three points….
1. Dan, you do a great job on this blog. Keep it up!
2. If you were serious about the Ironpigs putting an additional Ironpigs staff member on the field overnight after each loss, such a thing is childish and stupid. Most of those staff people work very hard and already work long hours. Enough with the stupid stunts… just win some games with better play and the issue goes away.
3. I am a baseball fan and have been so for years. I hate what I am seeing this season in terms of quality of play. That said I am not going to loudly boo and cause a distraction although I will occasionally make some honest comments evaluating what I see. The reason I will not loudly boo is that there are plenty of kids and families out there trying to enjoy themselves. Baseball needs more interest of people like that and I don’t think its right for any of us to spoil their day at the ball park. There are plenty of websites, blogs and message boards where people like me can and do register valid criticisms of quality of play. We do not need to ruin the evenings of people trying to get away from serious real world problems and just have a good time. Just my opinion.
PSVUE,
I only missed a handful of games last season – this season, I have actually only caught a handful of games.
The major reason :
It is pointless to just go over there and boo at the IronPigs.
Mostly, because, at the end of the day, if somebody wants to go to the Park and have a good time in spite of results, I sincerely have no desire to rain on somebody’s parade.
As you say, I can and will blow off steam on a blog, etc.
So, your point # 3 is an absolute bullseye.
I do believe that it is important to let the Philadelphia Phillies organization that the state of AAA IronPigs affairs is unacceptable.
I NEVER asked for a winning team. Five hundred and some respectability, that’s all.
>>I do believe that it is important to let the Philadelphia Phillies organization that the state of AAA IronPigs affairs is unacceptable.<<
I completely agree!
I really liked what I saw with the Gwinnett Braves in terms of how an organization handles its AAA franchise. A mix of older AAAA "spare parts" to fill expected holes over a season on the big club and younger hungry players. The way Gwinnett used Babaro Canizares and Freddie Freeman is exactly what I would like to see the Phillies move to in their approach.
This blog is what keeps me informed about the Iron Pigs. I often find out stuff here before it is reported elsewhere. Keep up the good work and have fun.
Thanks Dave! π
