Yeah, you heard me correctly. You can’t do anything nice anymore.
Don’t try to or everyone will jump on your case.
Offer to buy someone a beer and they will ask why not a mixed drink.
Offer them a ride and they will complain about the cleanliness of your car.
Offer them a bite of your burger and they will complain that you opted for onions and they don’t like onions.
These may sound like some of my various blind dates over the years but if you have listened to anything being said of the Ironpig’s organization the past two weeks.. this is a familiar tune.
I’m going to say it. I’m pissed. Yes.. no $$ signs in place of the S’s… I AM PISSED. (Children, avert your eyes)
Now, by no means, have these people done everything right. They have made mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes.
The trash talking and crap I have seen, read and/or heard the past week is ridiculous.
Today was no exception. If you missed it, today was the rescheduled Pigapalooza event.
There was a huge crowd. HUGE. Everywhere I looked I saw schedules plastered with times and locations. The PA announcer was constantly reminding folks of these key bits of information.
45 minutes were allocated for each autograph session. 45 minutes. Do you really think 10,000 people could get an autograph in that time frame? No. Would these people be willing to sign for more than 45 minutes. Most likely not.
So the complaints begin. Yes, linecutting happens. Where were you when it happened? Did you stand there silently or did you remind the offending person that there was a line?
“Hey buddy,, the line starts back here”
Did you inform an usher of line cutting?
“Sir… those people just cut in line”
Did you? I don’t think you did.
Why,,, Why do these same folks complain.
“This was the worst day of my life”
“I can’t believe how horrible these people are”
“My children were so upset!”
Maybe their parents could set a better example. Possibly they could learn a lesson that they don’t always get what they want. Perhaps it is a lesson in futility that even though you aren’t happy.. you can find solace in the fact that others are.
Enough about those complainers. You can walk away and never spend another dime at Coca Cola Park. Good for you. I hope you enjoy driving to Philadelphia to attend a ballgame.

So what happens now? What happens when someone does something good for you and you piss and moan about every little aspect of it? You guessed it… they don’t make that offer again.
I would not blame this organization (I say organization because the team office has just about nothing to do with the team) if they did not seek out big events for the Lehigh Valley. I would not blame them at all.
Want another big concert like the Willie Nelson, Mellancamp and Dylan concert last summer? They will think twice about it.
You think the league just hands out big events like the All Star game? This was a competition and the community earned it!
Go ahead Lehigh Valley.. ruin this. Go ahead.. keep complaining. This is the first truly successful sports franchise in the area in over 40 years and now the complaining starts.
Oh.. wait.. You PAID good money to attend? Yeah, so did 10,000 other people. There is always someone who gets slighted.
Make the most of it.. have fun. Have fun. HAVE FUN!
To the Ironpigs… If you try to make everyone happy, you will succeed in making no one happy.
Keep up the good work!

On another note, before I left for Pigapalooza, I stopped by the ALS fund raising event at Patriots park for Donna’s Dugout. I was there early and there were auctions and raffles and contests. Not to mention two softball games where you could attend at no cost. There were refreshments and no shortage of caring and friendly people. A great event for a great cause.
My only complaint.. that 10,000 people didn’t show up to this event.

That’s all I have to say about that.
Comment if you’d like. Be prepared though.. ignorant responses will be met with a swift delete.

Dan I agree. But my kids had a great time. My only complaint? I was hot. The reason was because my boys were getting autographs, playing games, doing the bouncy things, getting animal balloons, eating, listening to the bands, etc. and they did not want to leave. So I dealt with it, got a water and let my boys enjoy the last day of summer vacation. 🙂
Right on! I’ve been responding to people all day on the Pigs Facebook page. Why? Not sure. It’s been pissing me off more than I have been in awhile.
I’m 20. Yea Pigapalooza wasn’t the greatest event for me. Too old to do the little games and stuff and too young to hang at the bar for the bands and fireworks. Yea, I walked around the concourse and right out the gate without stopping.
But it was nice of the Pigs to throw the event. They could have just as easily not rescheduled it. I’m surprised they got the guests they did. I wasnt surprised with the behavior of the crowd. Line cutting, pushing, people going in all different directions. Just mayhem.
The only real complaint that is legit against the Pigs organization is that they obviously sold too many tickets to the event.
If fewer tickets would have been sold it would have helped a lot because the place was a zoo and the staff was at times overwhelmed.
“Want another big concert like the Willie Nelson, Mellancamp and Dillon concert last summer? They will think twice about it. ”
Just to help. It would be Dylan, not Dillon.
Thanks. I’ll chalk it up to the fat fingers again. 🙂
As many of you know.. if some people don’t complain they aren’t happy. They have to complain about something, even if its something SMALL. When they complain, they are happy.
Its like the people who complain to a restaurant just to get free food. Get a life ! You’re one of the reason insurance costs are going up !
I spent money at the park and was happy to do so. These drama queens and complainers just need to shut up. And line cutters – I’m assuming their parents never taught them anything about respect and doing the right thing. Its not about what you deserve – its what you’ve EARNED ! Some people enjoy making a scene to get something FREE and to make others look bad.
But, you know, its customer service – the “customer is always right” and some people take that way too far ! Give some people an inch, and they’ll take a mile !
Sorry – I had to vent. IronPigs staff – I look forward to seeing you more often next season and you’ll hardly hear me complain because your staff is the best – hands down !
must admit, the last month hasn’t been the greatest time for me at the park. it hasn’t been fun watching the team loose, but I do enjoy the smiles on the kids faces. I don’t complain much, perhaps the sarcastic comment or two to a friend, which if you know me, helps me see the bit of humor in it and get it off my chest. All I can say is DAMN! No wonder there is nothing good in the Lehigh Valley. What a fun bunch of whiners live here. We don’t like fireworks, we don’t like fun, thanks for giving us some place to go, we hate it. Will be a shame for those of us who are psyched that our children have an opportunity in our backyard that was never available to us. Looking forward to a new product, and hopefully different fans, at the park next year. Its been a long summer, a long season, and if they are anywhere near as tired as I am, the team and staff should take a nice rest with me!
Well I was one of those fans that was in line for the autographs. I did see line cutting and saw one of the two ushers turn his back when it happened. It wasn’t until the other usher said something to him that he did something about it. There was a huge crowd waitng for the first autograph session and I think the organization wasn’t prepared for that. Who knew? The other sessions went much smoother. My wife and I were smart enough to figure out that we had no chance at getting autographs at the first session so we gave up our spots and headed to the second session. That went fine except for standing in the sun for an hour. We then sat in the sun for the third session which was delayed, and delayed and delayed again. Should have brought sunscreen. When we finally stood up to get autograph my wife was dizzy. Too much time in the sun.
By the time we got our autographs it was 4:15 and we strolled around looking at the displays, or what was left of them. The early crowd had dwindled considerably and some displays were already taken down. We headed home to cool off about 5PM and came back at 7 for the fireworks.
At 7 the crowd was, well not a crowd. Couldn’t have been more than a few hundred people then. Only 2 food stands were still open. Very few displays were still up. (I have to tip my hat to the ones who stayed all day, they were real troupers). We picked seats for the fireworks and watched them at 8:10. They were finished at 8:19 and we walked to our car, and were home by 8:30. The parking lot was nearly empty and there was still another 30 minutes to go.
I find it hard to believe that there were 10,000 people there. At 7pm there were still baseball for the kids (only 3000 available for the day) and tote bags for the adults (very nice bags BTW). It seemed like everyone wanted to be there early and maybe the extra rush was for Dalton’s autograph. I didn’t get his autograph but at least I just moved on and didn’t throw a tantrum because I didn’t.
Yes, I’ll be there tonight too because… the Pigs are back in town!
I can relate to the heat.. around 4:00 I found myself wandering the parking lot. That was when I decided I had enough 🙂 Keith Groller’s blog reported about 6,000 in attendance with 10,000+ tickets sold.
Well, I didn’t use my tickets, so there’s two.
It was hot, I had a headache, and I really don’t care about autographs, so I couldn’t come up with a reason to drive over there. Ran some errands for the wife and played with the kids.
I’m glad some people had a good time. At some point, the organization (same caveat as above) needs to get firm: you wanna cancel your tickets? Fine. We’ll find someone else to buy them. Rules are rules. Cut the line? You’re out. Don’t like firworks? Here’s an Arby’s coupon. By the time you’re done with your beef and cheddar the fireworks are over and you can save yourself the hotel fee.
“Don’t like fireworks? Here’s an Arby’s coupon. By the time you’re done with your beef and cheddar the fireworks are over and you can save yourself the hotel fee.”
OMG, I am rolling on the floor laughing. That is awesome!
Does Councilman Michael Donovan consider the people who attended Pigapalooza to be “Gladiator-lovers”, as he publically labeled people who attend IronPigs games?
Does Donovan know that Council President Michael D’Amore, a graduate of Dieruff HS and not some carpetbagger from New England (not to point any fingers at Donovan) is a frequentor of the Park?
Will Donovan rally to champion the cause of the obviously helpless victims of oppression (the ones who did not get autographs)?
What can the jellyfish-for-spine IronPigs cave in on next?
Don’t miss the next exciting episode…
We were some of the crazy ones waiting in line at 11. As soon as we got it, we went to the Kids Club table, signed my kids up and went in line for Daulton and Botalico. It was crazy and people were trying to cut in line. We had people by us that were yelling back at them. I don’t think they anticipated that many people for the first autograph session. We left after the first one b/c I had somewhere to be at 2 and we went back around 7, when it was much cooler. My boys had fun in the evening when we went. Yes, there wasn’t much on the concourse anymore and KUDOS to those who stuck around. Overall, it was a fun day. I just wish it would have been cooler and we definately would have headed back sooner.
