The Season That Could Have Been

Watching Quick Pitch this morning I noticed a few names that have rolled through Coca Cola Park this year. Guys like DeWayne Wise and Nelson Figueroa were mentioned. Wise having a highlight reel night and Figueroa making a start tonight.

What could this season have been if not for injuries and transactions?

Wise would have made a huge impact in the outfield. Before opting himself out of the Lehigh Valley, he already had a bunch of extra base hits and great plays in centerfield.

Figueroa was lights out for the Ironpigs.

Granted, both are deserving of a Major League roster spot, but to have had them a little longer or even all season would have been huge for a team that has lost 33 one run games.

Looking at the infield, we also anticipated having Wilson Valdez. Valdez is more a Phillie than an Ironpig these days as he proved he can perform at that level.

We had Domonic Brown for a few weeks. Just a few weeks in what will be a great career.

Who would have thought Joe Savery would be 1 and 11. He was incredible last year between Reading and Lehigh Valley. Now he is looking to transform into a position player.

So many factors can contribute to this dismal record of 2010. So many if’s, so many but’s…. but the result is the same. Another losing season.

People get so hyped up about DOMONIC BROWN, who is certainly a promising talent.

Maybe it’s because I am old, but, the more people say Brown WILL have a great career…

the more I think not just about injuries…

but, the more I reflect upon —

With all do respect, Savery had an ERA of over 4 for both Reading and LV last year.

I wouldn’t exactly call that incredible.

He has been giving up more than a hit per inning pitched his whole ML career and he doesn’t strike out many batters.

I call that lucky as opposed to good.

Savery’s won-lost record last year was exceptionally deceiving — he benefited from excellent run support by the R-Phils
