I was asked to copy this over from Facebook, so here it is…..Summer of 2010!
If you had asked me on April 14th what I would be doing on Labor Day in September, I would have told you sitting at home relaxing since it is a day off from work. I never would have believed that I’d be sitting here depressed that the Ironpigs season is over or that I would have been at Coca-Cola Park for this final game of the season for more than 7 hours. I’ve always loved the Philles, and had such a good time at the few Ironpigs games I was able to make in 2009, that when my parents asked me if I would rather have 1 pair of tickets to a Flyers game or a pair of tickets for 9 games at Coca-Cola park, I took the baseball tickets immediately. I didn’t have tickets for Opening Night of 2010, but my boss, who had gotten her husband’s company’s club seats that night gave me hers. I knew 3 players on the team; Andy Tracy, Rich Thompson, and John Mayberry. That was it, everyone else was new to me. I didn’t know players by number at all, and was trying to figure out who people were. I had fun and was looking forward to my first ticket the next night. That night I walked over to say hello to an aquantiance of mine from work. I said hello than went and sat back in my seat. I had tickets again the following home stand, about a week and a half after my first game. Again I went and saw the person I knew from work, along with one of my co-workers who was a bit closer with this person. We both talked to her before the game before heading back to our seats. That night, I was invited out to Noise Nation for the first time. I had a BLAST. I was encouraged to get a ticket to the following friday or saturday game, but only a general admission and stand out in Noise Nation. So I did, and again I had a blast. If you had told me at the beginning of the season that this girl I knew would become one of my best friends I would have laughed in your face. I was never someone who followed stats of players, I sucked at baseball trivia. Now I can say that I understand stats, and can argue about them. I even wonone the final trivia question of the year that Ironpigs radio asked at Pitcher’s. At least one of the 2 radio hosts knows me by name. I tripled or quadrupled the amount of games I was supposed to go to. I made some amazing friends with people I had never met before this summer. I spent a weekend in Buffalo with an amazing friend, cheering on our boys in the rain while people in Star Wars costumes roamed around the park. I can now name most of the team by name (well definitely the starters and some of the pitchers). I’m now friends with some of the coolest and nicest ball players. Guys that will stop and sign an autograph for anyone if you ask nicely. Guys that love to give a ball or broken bat to a kid just to see their face light up. I now have an extended family, that I am going to miss dearly during the winter months. Obviously I’m uping my games for next season, I will have a full season general admission ticket. 212 days til the 2011 season opens….that is just too LONG!!!!
I was surprised by lots of things this year…
That my brother could always find a good parking place…
That I was good enough at baseball trivia…
That a certain bank saw fit to invite my family to the All-Star break…
That the pretzel burger was so messy (it’s stained two of my shirts!)
That I’ve never gotten into a squabble with anyone at the park (other fans, Pigs staff, even my own family)
And, of course, that I’ve made a bunch of new friends (awwww…) π
I’ve had a great 2010 Ironpigs season at CCP with the nation…You all have become what I consider to be an extended family to me. I truly love you all.
I liked everything.
I will always remember the losing streak when they made Morris camp out in the tent. That day they won, my son Alex, Tyler and Jimmy T ran the flags…hysterical. Good game+good friends=great times. Lets do it again next year π
My favorite memories are: the new friends I made – Dan, George, the Keelers, Laura, Amanda, Jimmy T, Heather and her family and Heather Walter and her family and other friends I didn’t mention.
The fun we had at Pitchers for the Pre-game show on Saturday afternoon.
The HR Derby and the All-Star Game at CCP ! It feels great to know the Lehigh Valley is the AAA attendance kings this year !
I’m not much of a summer fan at all but with the IronPigs and their staff, along with the Noise Nation family, I am definitely looking forward to buying GA season tickets next year and April 7 (opening day) !
Thanks everyone ! Keep in touch !
Now lets go Phillies – take over first place !
watching kehl grow into THE superstar ironpigs blogger he is
so this year my memories are not so much hanging out waiting for the players autographs, though I certainly have those too… nor are they so much of my too infrequent trips to the k-corner, rather this year will be more about seeing how much the kids are growing, especially my own. Seeing the boy get a good grasp on the intricacies of the game, seeing my 7yo really come out of her shell, being willing to chat with those around her, speaking up when she says thank you to a player when getting an autograph, and, perhaps best of all, watching my toddler become a little girl. Going from being terrified of the mascots, to making daily trips to the “red robin boof” to give them high-fives and get her picture taken. She’s provided perhaps my favorite memory of the season, making me run the bases over and over with her at the ticket-holder picnic.
Awwww….K-Lan.We definately made not enough trips to the K-corner too. It was just to hard b/c the kids could not see b/c of the sign. Sammie is getting big. She did make you guys round the bases over and over at the picnic. That was cute.
I’m going to follow your lead and say how Alex grew with going to see FeFe. He started out the season terrified of her. He then loved her, only for them to change the costumes and he once again was terrified of her. Finally, the night of the first Phanatic appearance, he went up to her and gave her a huge hug. That made her day and he’s been going to her ever since.
I’d have to be my daily oink when Heater and I passed the nation… No one can say you kids are not dedicated.
It’s been one week since the season ended and have yet to say anything so here goes. My memories of 2010 have to be the AAA All-Star weekend despite the rain at the HR derby it was alot of fun. My trip to Buffalo, finally made it to another IL city. Being reunited with my friends in sec. 108 as well as everyone I knew since year one..Laura, Dan and the Nation, Heather, Frankie and the Kids, Jared. My new friends Amanda, Dean, Sara, Heather W and her kids.
But for me at least the highlight of the season was meeting Molly as well as her Mom Vicki and grandma Leah. Never I have I met anyone as nice, sweet, and kind hearted as Molly, who loves the game as much as I and everyone else. We built a great friendship and shared alot of fun times and laughs this past season. It is so nice to have her as part of our IronPigs family.
Many times I have said it is not only for the love of the game, it’s about building friendships and having the feeling of family. It’s amazing how this team has brought alot of us together over the past 3 seasons. We made alot of memories and as the days grow shorter and the weather gets colder, I will look back upon them and smile. Through the miracles of FaceBook it will be nice to be able to keep in touch with everyone. Here’s to making new memories in 2011!! Thanks everyone, OINK!!
