Good for him!
Cody Ransom did not… well, hahahahahahaahahahaha.
Sorry, I couldn’t resist. It isn’t nice to laugh at someone’s misfortune.
A lot of these guys are working on building a pension and one game in a season at the Major League level makes that pension grow. I’m not 100% on percentages and/or time frames but I do know it is a considerable difference if you reach 6-10 years of service at the highest level.
So when a player is upset about not getting a call up during the season, you can understand that the season (in retirement terms) is a complete waste.
Oink

If Bocock would have been with the Phillies a day earlier they could have pinch hit for Wilson Valdez in that 1 run loss to the Mets. As it turned out, Valdez had to bat because there were no other players on the team who could play shortstop.
I saw this interesting quote in the Reading Eagle today:
“Earlier this season, Lehigh Valley IronPigs manager Dave Huppert compared six-year minor league free agents, which made up most of his team, to prostitutes. You have to wonder how much that played into the Phillies’ decision not to renew his contract.”

I think that comment contributed greatly to him leaving too. He himself seemed to fit that category.
For anyone interested in minor league baseball, the AAA championship game between the IL and PCL champions will be televised on the versus network on Tuesday September 21st at 8 PM. The best of 5 league finals begin tonight with Columbus facing Durham for the IL title while Tacoma will be matched up against Memphis for the PCL crown.
Nice blog by Jeff Schuler about Bocock’s callup. He points out that Bocock hit .288 (46-160) with a .410 onbase pct. after the allstar break.
Nice to see AAA homerun derby champion and International League MVP Dan Johnson contributing to the Tampa Bay Rays pennant drive by hitting 2 homers and driving in all 4 runs in the Rays 4-3 win over the Yankees on Wednesday night. He has 5 homers and 16 RBIs in his 68 at bats this year after hitting 30 homers for Durham.
Good stuff! I need to get you access to the blog to start posting all this great info! 🙂
