Incredible News!!!!

Wish I could share it with you all..

Sorry.. HA!

I really do know something great. Wish I could tell you but I can’t.

In a few weeks I will say.. “I knew about that weeks ago!” and will refer to this post. Actually I knew about this before the 2010 season but then it was just a rumor.

Until then..

  1. Is this related to the Pigs? If so I can’t imagine what it could be. We aren’t getting the ASG again are we?

    • “In a few weeks” the Phils will be in the thick of the postseason, meaning the media will be covering them like flies on a horse.

Great time to introduce a new manager for LV.

  2. I got it! West Chester to build a minor league ballpark which will host a Phillies minor league team.

  3. That’s not what I heard.. but any stadium construction in West Chester might indicate a possible return of a National Pro Fastpitch team to the area. Word was last year was that the Philly Force was looking to move down there.

  4. Did you notice the really big tents going up around Coca Cola Park this week?

  5. Well the news is out. There was a benefit event held at the park tonight which included Pete Rose and Mike Schmidt and a “Ferrous” wheel. I heard about this earlier in the year but wasn’t sure of the date until recently. Would loved to have met those two…

      Dan,

I was told about it earlier this week.

It was a fundraiser run by Lehigh Valley Health Network. Coca-Cola Park and the IronPigs hosted the event. I heard the minimum price of per plate was not cheap.

I’m not sure who the fundraiser was for though.

It’s a black tie event to raise money to support Lehigh Valley Health Network programs and has been an annual LVHN event since 1996 raising in excess of $9 million. One of the 2010 highlights was an auction of Phillies jerseys that were signed by guests of honor Mike Schmidt and Pete Rose. I did hear fireworks last night too.

The 2009 event had a Wizard of Oz theme and was held beneath a tent at the LVH Muhlenberg campus . You can watch a video of last years event here:

I talked with one of the ushers today and he was telling me all about this. He said Pete Rose’s jersey went for $900 and Schmidt’s jersey for $1600. There was also a silent auction, featuring some autographed baseballs (Lidge and Utley he remembered), a Joe Montana helmet (starting bid I think he said was $3500).

  8. What I said earlier could still happen. The Phils took the first step tonight (27) by clinching the division. Congrats to the team, including all the Pigs call-ups!

I saw the fireworks while blogging at Headquarters. Shocked Councilman Donovan didn’t have a cow and post about it at his site.

Those are two outstanding points, Heather M and Mr. Kehl…

…that would be too funny if the noted Liberal Progressive Professor / Councilman Donovan, who surely cares very much about Public Health, if only to shore up his base constituency voting block, was at this black-tie event with all the other Elites of Society who can afford to drop down $ 1600 on a baseball jersey or $ 3500 on a football helmet.

Don’t get me wrong – I am all in favor of capitalism, of which fund-raising for charitable causes is a part, and do not begrudge “rich” people.

But the fireworks at the Park last approximately 20 minutes.

I live in West Park area of the City. The noise from the firecrackers (read, gunfire) occurs far more frequently and goes on far longer into the night. I can understand if Donovan doesn’t understand that because he lives in the prestigous West End and works there, as well (Cedar Crest College).

Hopefully, that compalining clown downtown was forced to waste more money at a motel somewhere outside Allentown.
