Doesn’t look like Moyer will be back, but it does mention that he may have to accept a minor league deal to keep in the organization. That would be good for us to see him here at CCP. Might help our other pitchers out with advice as well. He would be a nice addition from my viewpoint. Look out Rod Nichols…
Hoover I would like to see stick around. I always liked him. You can often see him playing ball with kids on the field after Sunday games.
OinK!

I don’t see Hoover coming back. I thought I read he went to Free Agency because the Phillies were offering him a minor league contract. He wants to play in the big leagues, but I don’t think that will happen.
Moyer would definitely be a good mentor for young minor league prospects, almost like another coach.
It would be shocking if Moyer actually needed the money so it will be interesting to see how that situation develops.
Although I don’t want to see Hoover leave, he is not an all year big league catcher…and I can’t see any team offering him more than a triple a contract. Don’t get me wrong, he has done well when the Phillies have needed him over the past few years when the regular catchers have been injured, But he is getting up there in age and has had some injuries himself.
Third string catcher for a team that goes to the postseason every year isn’t a bad gig. He’s just not good enough to take a spot away from a younger player on the 40 man roster. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Hoover once again signs a minor league contract with the Phillies. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Greg Dobbs does the same.
Oh I completely agree, I’d rather be with a winning team in some way then not!
Did I or didn’t I spot a noise nation member at the Brass Rail in Allentown on Friday night, maybe around 7:30?
You might have.. but it wasn’t me π
No doubt that Hoover will be back next year.
He’s well liked and the Phillies have nothing better to put in his place. He will never be a major league catcher simply because he cannot hit major league pitching the same way how I doubt John Suomi will be Hoover’s backup because he cannot hit AAA pitching.
Moyer is pitching in the Dominican Republic this winter in hopes of drawing interest from other teams.
To me there is almost no chance he’s playing in Allentown next year or even with the Phillies or quite honestly only a small chance at best he’s even signed to any team. He clearly wants to pitch in the majors again, who knows if Moyer would be willing to accept a whole season at 48 of long bus rides with no promise of a callup in AAA.
As for Dobbs, he’s awful. The Phillies would being doing themselves a favor by never entertaining the idea of bringing him back. He was terrible this year and was just as bad last year.
He had a career year in ’08 and that was it.
In case anybody missed it, Jaime Moyer is done.
