Nationals to Double Price of Tickets…

Just trying to be funny, but the contract the Washington Nationals have given Jayson Werth is not. Not funny at all.

I once read a comment by Werth that said he would be sad to leave Philly as he would miss the fun and companionship of the right field fans. I guess $126 million makes up for that friendship.

Comedian Ron White has a line that goes something like.. When I get rich.. you won’t see me anymore. I’ll be in Palm Springs with my neeewwww friends.

Well Werth has a new home and new friends now. I really do wish him well. Money or no money, he made the choice. He alone has to live with his decisions.

I would be, however, very concerned if I was a Nationals fan. Will Werth bring new hope to Washington? We’ll see.

Decal’s Thoughts:

The only way a non-contending team can compete for the top free agents is to offer them lots more money than the big boys. Unfortunately for Washington, Jayson Werth isn’t a top free agent, he’s just one of the better players available on the free agent market this year. As Jim Bouton wrote in “Ball Four”, you gotta, “smoke ‘em inside”. I can only imagine what it’s going to take for the Cardinals to sign Albert Pujols to an extension next year.

OinK!

    Train wreck waiting to happen…

…be interesting to see Werth pull a Bruntlett and end up with Syracuse Chiefs in Interntional League.

I would definitely be willing to pay more than the standard $ 6 fare to see the reception a Syracuse Chiefs outfielder named Werth would receive from Noise Nation!

    Can’t happen?

    Call Dontrelle Willis…

  2. Dontrelle Willis has visited The Coke several times. He may appear again in 2011 with the Louisville Bats as he signed a contract with the Reds for the upcoming season.

I did an article about this once…

…I think it is Willis, appearing with Toledo Mud Hens, who holds the distinction (or dishonor) of being the player with the highest single-season contract to ever appear at the Park aside from someone on a MLB rehab assignment.

You say Coke, I say Park.

But, what would Brian Boitano do?

    🙂

That’s the first paragraph of a good article by Philly sportswriter Jim Salisbury. The entire article can be found here:
