From the Desk of Decal – Domonic Brown

“LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. strongly suggested that prized prospect Domonic Brown, widely considered the eventual successor to departed rightfielder Jayson Werth, will need more minor-league seasoning in 2011.”

That’s the first paragraph of a good article by Philly sportswriter Jim Salisbury. The entire article can be found here:

So, hard evidence that Amaro reads the best blog in all of minor league baseball emerges.

IronPigs analysts here have already noted Brown’s development would not be served by sitting the MLB bench this year…

They need a right handed hitter with power (or at least a left handed batter who can hit lefties well) in the lineup for 2011. Barring injury or some other misfortune Brown should eventually be the Phillies starting right fielder however the outfielder he will replace in the batting order will be Ibanez in 2012. My wish would be for Brown have a terrific spring and push Ibanez aside this coming season. It is clear however that Brown will have to change the minds of some skeptics in the organization for that to happen. The Phillies seem to have an organizational preference for veteran players. I have often wondered if Ryan Howard would have even been given a fair chance if it was not for Jim Thome’s injury issues.
