Someone had to go to make room for J.C. Romero on the 40 man roster and Escalona was the guy. It’s still possible he could be outrighted to the minors if no other team claims him.

The Phillies traded Escalona today to the Houston Astros. Ed Wade really likes those former Phillies. In exchange they received Albert Cartwright, a 5’10” 180 pound second baseman who is 23 years old. It appears he has been assigned to AA Reading. In Class A last year he hit .319 with 26 doubles, 13 triples and 10 homeruns. He also had 24 stolen bases. He was promoted to AA but hit just .229 at that level. His presence at Reading could be a factor in where Harold Garcia plays this year but there is currently a traffic jam at second base with the Ironpigs.
No more up and down Escalator for the IronPigs!
