Per the Hog Blog, the Phillies optioned John Mayberry to the Ironpigs. He has 72 hours to report.
No word on who goes down, but pending anyone hitting the injured Valendia list… I’d say our pal Rich Thompson may get a trip to Reading again.

According to Matt Provence on Twitter, Rich Thompson goes on the DL with flu-like symptoms. And, Sandberg or not, the Phillies are going to want Mayberry playing fulltime in AAA. I hate messing with team chemistry while things are going well.
Great that is not want this team needs a player who thinks that he should be up in the big leagues and probally pout about it and not give it is all, and poor Rich Thompson the Jimmy T curse is coming around again(sorry Jimmy just a joke) but he is a player that gives it his all game after game and what do they do “give him the flu” it is a shame.
Interesting news posted by Matt Gelb on his twitter page: “Brian Schneider suffered a setback in his rehab last week. Basically starting from scratch now. No timetable.”
The only good news that could come out of this is that Erik Kratz will be starting and playing more games as catcher for the IronPigs. I assume the Phillies will keep Sardinha as the backup catcher.
Don’t understand the Mayberry thing, Martinez stays? I know, utility, blah blah blah…..I would not blame Thompson if he just left, everyone should play like him….As for Schneider, I know people will disagree only because he is from the area, but as Phillies fan, I would rather have Kratz. In fact, per at least two Phillies pitchers, they prefer Sardinha over Schneider.
Rich Thompson is the hardest-working player on the team. He ALWAYS hustles to 1st base, unlike some other players we know, and is the fastest guy on the team. He went down to Reading last year without squawking, which is more than a lot of others would have done, and now this is how he’s gonna be repaid? He’s part of the reason this team is winning!
And let the Phillies keep Sardinha. I’d rather have Kratz any day. He’s a better hitter and better defensive catcher than Sardinha. Period.
Can’t believe this is happening again to a great guy and player who gives it is all. And why does this happen around All-Star voting time??? I think it is the Jimmy T. curse! Here’s a guy who hustles, gets on base anyway he can, steal a base or two, and covers the outfield. It’s a shame that they do this to him. Knowing Richie T he’s probably handling this like the class act that he is. I’ll still keep voting!!
