What Lehigh Valley event isn’t complete without Larry Holmes?
They were better than the 2008 squad but still ended one game short of .500.
A fan favorite here.
Remember when Michael Taylor hit a home run for the cycle to tie the game? JJ Furmaniak drove in the winning run later in that game.
Heard rumblings that Marson might be back in the Valley this season.
Who else remembers him tossing balls into the stands for fans? He stood by the bullpen and consistently hit the roof on the right field trough pavilion.
Mr. IronPig himself
Donald’s moment in baseball history was when he inadvertently was called safe at first to ruin Armando Galarraga’s perfect game.
Sigh…

There were some great moments in Ironpigs history but in my mind, one of the greatest (which turned into one of the most disappointing), happened in 2009 on April 25. The Ironpigs were trailing the Boston Red Sox 4-3 going into the bottom of the 9th. Daniel Bard, a former 1st round draft pick by the Red Sox, and the top pitcher in Boston’s farm system was coming in to close out the game. It was still early in the season but he was blowing people away and I was excited to catch a glimpse of the guy with the 100 mph fastball. Rich Thompson led off the bottom of the 9th and popped out to the catcher. Up next steps Jason Donald with one out and nobody on base. Baseball people talk about that pure sound you hear when a bat perfectly strokes a baseball but it’s a rare occasion when the bat perfectly kisses the leather of a baseball when it’s approaching at a high rate of speed. But that is exactly what happened. If I close my eyes I can still hear the sound of Jason Donald’s bat hitting that Daniel Bard fastball. As the line drive soared over the bullpen in left field I caught a glimpse of the radar in right center. It said 99. The remains of the sellout crowd on that beautiful Saturday night went wild.
Four years have passed and I have yet to hear the sound of the ball perfectly meeting the bat as it did that April night in 2009. Unfortunately, the home run by Donald only tied the score at 4 and with Gary Majewski pitching the top of the 10th inning, the PawSox scored an unearned run and turned a double play in the bottom of the 10th to win the game by a 5-4 score. But, if I had to list my favorite Ironpigs home runs of all-time at Coca-Cola Park, that rocket Jason Donald launched off Daniel Bard would easily be in the top 3, maybe even number one.
By May 13th Daniel Bard was pitching in Boston.
