Changes Coming to the Bypass App?

This entry came across my Twitter Machine recently:

“More info soon! RT @WsmokeDP: @IronPigs Clicked on bypass by accident asked for seat info. Delivery? Fill me in! Bypass is the best!”

This got my attention.  I didn’t use the Bypass a ton, but I did make good use of it on several occasions when the lines were very long or when I was migrating to another location in the park and wanted to have my food ready for me when I go there.  It worked well, with very few glitches.

So, in-seat delivery would be fabulous.  I picked up my iPhone and punched up the app.  It asked for permission to use my location, and then put me right in touch with Coca Cola Park.  As the Twitter user above described, it asked for my seat location.  Since I know where my seats are, I put it in.  The next screen was the concession list.  For the club level, it gave me the option of delivery or pickup from the Hog Heaven club-level concession stand.  Click on delivery, and it brings up the regular menu, including beer (along with a red banner letting me know the concession stand is now closed.)

I decided to test other locations.  I put in a random field level seat in section 115.  It did not give me the option of in-seat delivery.  Perhaps the in-seat delivery will be available only for “heavy rollers” in the club level.  Perhaps they’re still working out the kinks.  I wonder if there’ll be a delivery fee.  What about tipping?  I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Unseen Benefit From The Tiki Bar

The newest addition to Coca Cola Park will certainly add to the park much tropical themed fun and food.

At first thought you could look at this like it’s a bad thing…

– Prime standing territory for General Admission fans lost.

– Little or no access to the players in the bullpen anymore.

– Those long rightfield home run balls will be pulled into that Tiki Bar like a black hole.

Ok, so the GA fans might be slightly slighted in this deal or perhaps they will feel that they gained access to another bar, increased drink rail capacity and menu items previously unavailable – fan reaction of course remains to be seen.

Let’s take an inside look at what us outfield fans have gained.

Increased safety in the outfield concourse.

There hasn’t been too many problems at the Coke, but there has been problems. You’ve seen the roving mobs of teens out there late in games just looking for something to do. You’ve seen the folks who have had too much to drink. It happens. It happens at pretty much every ball park.

The Security folks are usually on top of things quickly but getting them to know about it has been slow (at least what I’ve observed). Only once in 4 years did I see an employee not properly respond to an issue. (Once in 4 years times 72 games) Impressive.

Last season a woman fell and hit her head behind the bullpens. We looked left, we looked right.. no IronPig employees to be seen. We sent a runner to get EMTs. We made a phone call to the office. 15 minutes later an EMT strolled up. It’s a long walk from behind home plate when someone is laying in the outfield bleeding.

My point is, had there been an employee with a radio there, response time would have been nearly immediate.

With the arrival of the Tiki Bar, we will now have a contact point and feel that much safer in the outfield.

I don’t know about you but I’d rather feel safer then get the occasional wink from Michael Schwimer.

Looks Like Brian Gordon Is Staying In Korea

Per tweet by Ken Davidoff of Newsday:

RHP Brian Gordon, who pitched briefly for the Yankees last year, has signed with Samsung in Korea.

Based on previous information, SK Wyverns must have granted Gordon a full release which then enabled him to sign with another team in Korea.

Watch Every IronPig Away Game Online!

I used the MiLB Video service the past couple years and it was great. Plug the laptop into the TV, mute the TV and tune the Radio to the IronPig’s Radio Network and see IronPig away games! (There are hundreds of other games broadcast online as well)

The only downside to this is that some teams don’t always broadcast their games. In those cases we get a “security cam” like overlook of the field.

Anyways, the reason for my post.

I received an email that MiLB is holding a contest offering a free season’s subscription. Click the image below for details…

Big News! (If You Know Me… You’ll Understand)

While I haven’t gotten the ok to release some new GREAT info about Coca Cola Park this summer, I decided to have some fun with this until I can tell you.

Note: It’s not the Tiki Bar.

If anyone guesses what it is before I make the announcement, I will treat you to it on Opening Day 2012! (First to guess only, must guess via comment section)

What do you think the Big Announcement is?

2012 IronPig Promotions – My Thoughts

The full schedule can be viewed on the IronPig’s website… some of my favorites noted below:

First, the bobbleheads. Those cheap plastic wobbly wonders that put fans in a frenzy.

1. April 11th – the Ferrous Bobble Belly
2. April 12th – the FeFe Bobble Head (and Arm) *Glad to know the arm is specified.
3. April 23rd – Rich Thompson Bobble Head (Long deserved for the only IronPig to stay all 5 seasons)
4. May 1st – Vance Worley Bobble Head
5. May 15th – Jamie Moyer High School Bobble Head (PA native, it fits)
6. June 17th – John Mayberry Bobble Head

The Harry Kalas bronze statue (May 3rd) and Vance Worley Glasses (May 17th) are also pretty cool.

It’s no secret that I prefer the performances over giveaways.. we will have two this season.

The Amazing Christopher….

The Russian Bar Trio….

I really enjoy this stuff.. not sure if it’s as good as Monkeys riding Dogs last season but it does appear entertaining!

Blitz asked that I also note there will be 3, count ’em, Three dog days this season!

Dog day #1 – April 15th

Dog day #2 – Not yet on the schedule

Dog day #3 – June 4th

Blitz will be close to 6 months old for the first one so he’ll really have to prove himself before he earns a trip to CCP but June 4th might be his day.

Otherwise, a lot more fireworks (for those who plan to get a hotel room on these nights) and an overall fun season planned.

Tip of the hat to promotions and hopefully another playoff season.
