All Joking Aside… A Real Announcement

Yes, April Fools Day is one of my favorites.. Hopefully you got as big a laugh as I did.

On to some actual Noise Nation announcements!

The Noise Nation is proud to announce that DiPro will be our official IronPig’s Beat writer for the 2012 season!

It’s going to be a good summer at Coca-Cola Park and we are excited about the increased coverage for 2012 – Stay tuned! Coach Sandberg is ready, the IronPigs are ready, The Voice is ready, The Tiki Terrace is ready, even the new Ribbon Board is ready.
The real question is.
Are you ready ?
To Bring the Noise?
Because we are!
-DiPro

The Noise Nation will also have the addition of Podcasts prior to IronPig games this season! Leading the way will be Kram’s Korner!

News and timely reports for the IronPig fan!

Details are being sorted out and tests are in progress so stay tuned for more info on Podcasting!

We hope that the podcast will be available to download prior to most home series  as a baseball preview–and periodically when news or guests present.  We’re big fans of the pre-game radio show and the pre-game TV as well, but want to supplement with information, news, and updates for the die-hard fan on the run.  If successful, we hope to be able to host guests to come on and talk about all things Noise Nation–IronPigs first and foremost.
-Kram

Again, thanks to all who participate in our blog and here’s to a great year of Lehigh Valley sports!

Major Announcement – April 1st, 2012

***This was an April fools joke***

I’ve kept this a secret for months and after many meetings, permissions and other various details to wrap up I am happy to announce that….

The Noise Nation Fan Group Reality show will begin filming next week!

Can you believe this?

I didn’t tell DiPro, I didn’t tell Kram, I didn’t even tell my own mother… As part of my deal with Tunrer Broadcasting (The parent company for TrueTV) I was not allowed to divulge any information until today.

So what happens now? Well, a film crew will be following myself and Jimmy T around at Steelhawks games, Roller derby bouts, Philadelphia Union games and last but not least.. at IronPigs game. They are going to track us as we prep for the games, organize road trips and even as we get together to listen/watch away games.

It’s going to be pretty cool.

To allow for production time, etc. there will be about a 2 week delay from filming until the episodes actually air on TV. (A time slot hasn’t been finalized but Sunday afternoon has been mentioned a few times.)

This is an incredible fun thing to happen for us!!

A few perks offered to us for our participation…

– A Noise Nation bus for road trips. (An old souped up short school bus… you guys thought we were joking didn’t you?)

– Studio equipment to record a podcast prior to events

– They are covering all travel costs involved

There is a lot more involved and expect to be a part of the excitement.

How about this! Is this the most awesome thing you’ve heard today? Today.. April 1st, 2012.

296 Games is a Good Run – IronPig Memories

I have mixed feelings when I think about this. 296 IronPig games. Most home. Some away. Some playoffs, some exhibition. All are fantastic memories for me and while the results varied, the friendships did not. One particular mainstay was my first purchase of IronPig gear. I’m not one for team apparel. I bought an IronPig’s team jacket one evening when it turned out to be unusually cold… but my first purchase was weeks before the Pigs first took the field on that cold March morning in 2008.

Soon after I ordered my first season ticket, I bought this:

Heading for retirement. 2007-2012

4+ seasons did a number on this hat. A lot of fading from the sun and the occasional washing. It was sewed back together 3 times. I was very leary about new hats and even turned down an offer from Michael Schwimer to buy me a new one. I love this hat. Fits like a glove and has been there for just about every big IronPig moment good and bad.

The excitement that accompanied the return of pro baseball to the Lehigh Valley.

The start of the 2008 season. Greg Luzinski saw me wearing this hat at Citizen’s Bank Park and chuckled as he asked if they had won a game yet. He signed the hat as well as Chris Coste. Both were long faded away.

It saw every game in the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

It remembers the old Ferrous and FeFe outfits.

It’s been to Scranton on multiple occasions and was there when the Pigs beat the PawSox to advance to the Governor’s Cup championship last fall.

In all, this cap (as a friend’s grandfather told me.. a hat has a brim all the way around, what I’m wearing is a cap) has seen 296 IronPig games.

So to say this hat, cap… is a part of me is an understatement. With that said I announce its official retirement.

Fear not, though… my rapidly expanding bald spot won’t be at risk for sun burn this summer. I have found, thanks to my humorous Ebay search, a near identical replacement.

This is what the cap looked like in 2007

Granted, it will take some time to get the new version broken in but hopefully it will be 4 more years before I have to go through this process again.

OinK!
