Moving On – Catching Up – Busy Weekend

It was a busy weekend for the Noise Nation.

First off, the IronPigs beat Syracuse 6-0 yesterday and are currently in Game 1 of a double header this afternoon.

The story of the past week has been headlined by weather and postponements. It happens every year around this time.

****

Myself and Jimmy T took in a Steelhawk’s road game down in Richmond, VA yesterday. While they almost staged a 4th quarter comeback, the Steelhawk’s early game mistakes cost them as they ended up losing to the Richmond Revoltion. I was very impressed with the Richmond Coliseum, their staff and their fans. A great night with great people!

We ran into former IronPig staffer Steve Pump who now works for the Richmond Flying Squirrels. With Jimmy T.

An overall fun trip and hope the Steelhawk’s continue an annual bus trip to an away game.

While Jimmy T and I were leading cheers on the 10 hour bus drive, Cheryl was in Reading checking out the… “team that plays out there” (Yeah, I’m still not happy and it’s my choice)

Wiley Steelhawks Taking PFL on the Ground!

PIFL League stats of games through March 20th!

Our Lehigh Valley Steelhawks look more like a Roadrunner so far and are leaving the rest of the PIFL looking through their ACME catalogs for schemes to stop them! Rated #1 in the league in Rushing Offense and Rushing Defense the team is pushing hard to get that Championship this year!

What would mentioning Steelhawk stats be without mentioning the Defense! Our Steel Fence’s most impressive stat is leading the entire PIFL in Turnover margin!

The Steel Fence compiled a total of 7 turnovers with 4 interceptions and 3 fumble recoveries compared to their opponents 1 interception.

The team is heading down to Louisiana to take on the Swashbucklers on Saturday. Check out the Steelhawk’s website for live video and audio feeds of the game!

Steelhawks Home Opener!

From the Steelhawks:

STEELHAWKS PUT ON SHOW IN HOME OPENER

Lehigh Valley Defeated Knoxville 63-45

Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks put on a show for all their amazing fans that came out to watch a great St. Patrick’s Day Game versus the Knoxville Nighthawks. The Steelhawks, now 1-1, led the entire game as they defeated the Nighthawks 63-45 in their home opener.

Local QB Adam Bednarik, named Buca di Beppo and Countess Communications. Player of the Game at the conclusion of the game, led the way for the Steelhawks throwing for 225 yards, 4 touchdowns, and running for another 2 touchdowns. LB Terence Thomas started the excitement with an interception and 43 yard return that led to Bednarik and the Steelhawks’ first touchdown, a two yard run. He followed that by throwing two tds to WR Troy Pascley on the next two drives. The first quarter ended with the Steelhawks leading 21-7.

The second quarter saw Knoxville trying to make a comeback, but a RB Richard White (11 rushes for 75 yards) touchdown run held the Steelhawks lead going into halftime, 28-17.

The scoring picked back up in third quarter. Knoxville started the quarter off with a one point uno by K Armando Cuko. The scoring was back and forth for the rest of the quarter, White picked up another rushing touchdown, Pascley hauled in a third touchdown reception, and K George Pierson connected on a 20 yard field goal. At the end of the third, Lehigh Valley was up 45-38.

The Steelhawks dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Nighthawks 18-7. Pierson started the Steelhawks off with another field goal and then on the ensuing kick-off stopped the Nighthawks in their own end zone to pick up the one point rouge. After allowing the only Knoxville touchdown of the quarter, the Steelhawks answered with two touchdowns, a Bednarik run and a WR Jeff Willis (4 catches for 60 yards) catch.

From the Steelhawks

Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks will be bringing all the fun and excitement that is indoor football back to the Valley when they play their first home game of the 2013 season this Sunday, March 17th at 4:00pm. This will be the first meeting between the two teams as the Steelhawks open and close their home games against Knoxville.

Knoxville (0-1) is led by their star WR DeAndre Brown (2 tds), a highly recruited player that played at Southern Mississippi. Look for QB Josh McGregor (247 yds, 3 tds) to target Brown throughout the game. Defensively they are led by LB Stanley Clark (5 tackles, 1 sack).

Lehigh Valley (0-1) looks to get in the win column coming off a tough lost last week in Alabama. Last week QB Adam Bednarik (199 yds, 3 tds) spread the ball around – WR Jeff Willis (7 catches for 74 yds, 2 tds), WR Torieal Gibson (4 catches for 71 yds, 1 td), and WR Tom Gilson (8 catches for 49 yds). The return of WR Troy Pascley from injury gives Bednarik more weapons to target. Defensively the team is led by DBs Clarence Curry (4 tackles, including one for a loss) and David Castillo (3tackles, 1 int), along with LB Brandon Roundtree (1.5 tackles, 1 int returned for a td).

The Steelhawks Home Opener is presented by Wilson Elser and PSDA Insurance. The first 1,000 fans in the door will get a FREE 2013 schedule T-Shirt. Also for one night only, fans will be able to take advantage of $1 hot dogs courtesy of Sodhexo and Lehigh University. Fans can expect more giveaways as well as all the fun activities associated with Steelhawk games on this St. Patrick’s Day afternoon game.

Kickoff is slated for 4:05 (EST). Steelhawk 2013 home games will be broadcast on Service Electric TV2 Sports.

Catching Up 3-11-13

Spring training is in full swing but I’m going to let Decal, Kram and Dipro handle that for now. Really interesting comment from Decal regarding the bench clearing incident when Canada faced Mexico recently:

Maybe we could also arrange a Canada/Mexico rematch at Coca-Cola Park. There were no less than 10 past, present or future Ironpigs involved in the big brawl at the World Baseball Classic on Saturday. Pete Orr and 2012 Reading LHP Jay Johnson were ejected. Others on the Canadian roster were Phillippe Aumont, Scott Mathieson, R.J. Swindle, John Suomi, &Tyson Gillies while team Mexico was represented by Rodrigo Lopez, Oscar Villarreal and Sebastian Valle who was behind the plate for Mexico when the bean ball incident took place.

Also included was some video:

***

With that said Friday was the Steelhawk’s first game of the 2013 season as well their first game in the new league. (PIFL) I have to say I am disappointed in the results. These guys have been working hard, I know this. I’ve seen it. Great folks in a great organization. They ended up losing on a last minute trick play to the Alabama Hammers. Despite the incredibly poor video (without audio) and the radio station play by play announcers on a separate web link calling our team the SteelDogs for the first three quarters (I gave him a break as he sounded like Charlie Manuel) I have to say I feel let down. Almost, almost upset about this loss. The Steelhawks dominated in this game only to have multiple penalties, mistakes and missed kicks to deflate their efforts. I don’t want you to think I’m trying to put down my team, but I don’t want it to be known that I was happy. If I don’t care about a team and its players I usually shake off a loss and give out compliments regardless. If I love the team, the players and staff… I care. I care a lot. I want them to succeed. The Steelhawk’s home opener is at Stabler Arena this coming Sunday and I will be there with beer and bbq tailgating. If you haven’t had my bbq, show up and try some. Come on out and help us Bring the Noise!

Come Saturday I found myself at the Independence Family Fun Center in Schnecksville to see our Lehigh Valley Rollergirls take on the Ithaca Suffer Jets. While pre-bout league estimates gave our Hissy Fits a 10% chance of victory, the gals fought hard after a “rink malfunction” delayed the game almost an hour. I nearly had super bowl flashbacks revisiting repeat after repeat of commercials but my attention (as were many others) was focused on the woman who was remarking the floor in a tight dress and high heels. I’ll let you use your imagination as the photo’s were deemed a bit too provocative for this blog.

Anyways, The Hissy Fits ended up falling to the Suffer Jets and all headed out to Grumpy’s BBQ for food and festivity.

How much do I love the Roller Derby, Let me count the ways….

1. Beautiful, athletic women in tight clothes.

2. Great roller derby names like Helen DeRink, Daisy Destructo, Vanilla Creamher and Levelin Levi.

3. BYO everything. How many sporting events allow you to bring your own beer. (No glass) Cash Money $$$$ savings there!

4. You get to party with them all afterwards at a BBQ place! Free food!

5. An exciting sporting event. Cheers, hard hits, fast action.

What’s not to love?!

That’s all I got for now.

OinK! Screech! Roll On!
