IronPig Game Results 8/22/11 – Oh My

The Pigs lost again tonight by a final score of 2-0 to the Indianapolis Indians. At the time of writing this post both Pawtucket and Gwinnett had leads late in their games.

The pitching was there, starter Edell only allowed 2 runs (1 earned) and Feierabend with a healthy toe pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

The Pigs did get 6 hits, 3 of them by Overbeck but those hits proved fruitless and errors by Bozied and Kratz assisted the Indian’s cause.

The Pigs face Indianapolis once more tomorrow night before moving on to Louisville for 4 games.

IronPig Game Results 8/21/11 – Not Making it Easy

The IronPigs had a great chance to push ahead in the playoff race this afternoon with Pawtucket losing to Syracuse and Gwinnett getting stomped by Charlotte.

Unfortunately, they didn’t take advantage of it and lose to the Indians by a score of 2-3.

The Pigs were shut out until the 9th when Galvis had a bases loaded single to tie the game.

Not making it easy on us fans… but it is exciting πŸ™‚

The Phro Makes His Phillies Debut!

On just the 2nd pitch of his debut, our pal, Michael “Phear the Phro” Schwimer allowed a monster home run. He closed out the inning and returned to strike out the side in the 7th inning and allowed only 1 baserunner in the 8th before completing his 3rd inning of relief.

Schwimer was in line for the win before closer Bastardo allowed a HR to tie the game as well. Oh well.

Good job man! The Noise Nation is proud!

ROLLER DERBY!!!!!

We had a great time today out in Schnecksville for the Roller Derby Double Header! The bells and horns were out and the crowd was fired up and the Roller Girls did not disappoint.

Jimmy T helped the halftime belly dancers with their routine

There was pushing, there was shoving, there were NFL quality hits (I saw some serious bruises at the afterparty), there was speed and there was strategy going on… and it was all an awesome time!

The thing about this physical sport is that when it’s all done these fine ladies high five, smile and hug each other. No animosity in this high impact competition full of sportsmanship.

Roxy Fox & Loogie Vuitton showing their skate face!

The LV Roller Girl Hissy Fits faced up against the River City’s Poe’s Punisher and the lead changed hands so many times I couldn’t keep track. It came down to the final seconds and River City prevailed by a score separated only by 3 points. A hard fought battle and no one was disappointed at the end.

Talking strategy with the Roller Girls coach Minerva Steel

Jimmy T and I were invited along to the after party at Grumpy’s BBQ Roadhouse in Mechanicsville. (On Mauch Chunk road) There was a full buffett of awesome ribs, pulled pork, brisket, wings.. and great side dishes. There was also a big cake to make note of the retirement of two great roller girls. Rose Beef and Parker Paxa Punch have hung up their skates. Good luck to you both!

I really have to give another mention to the huge hits there were tonight. One of them had Rose Beef come out of the penalty box, rail her competitor so hard she flew into the crowd. Another sent our own Roxy Fox tumbling through a referee and into the wall.

Great times, great people and a good fun time. Thanks to the LV Rollergirls and all involved for including us in their event!

Next one is coming up in September so stay tuned for details.

IronPig Game Results 8/19/11 – Keeping it Interesting

The Pigs lost to the Rochester Red Wings tonight by a final score of 8-5.

Starter Brian Bass allowed 4 runs and was pulled after 3 innings.

No runs were allowed until Heilman allowed 4 between the 6th & 7th innings.

No runs were allowed until Heilman allowed 4 between the 6th & 7th innings.

No runs were allowed until Heilman allowed 4 between the 6th & 7th innings.

The Pigs lost by 3 runs.

The Pigs lost by 3 runs.

The Pigs lost by 3 runs.

Not saying anything other than that.

Pawtucket has a big lead late (as of this post)

Gwinnett is losing (as of this post)

Hope the concert goers stayed dry tonight.

From Bacon & Biscuits, I saw that considerations are being made for the Scranton Wilkes Barre Yankees to play their home games at an alternate location in 2012 as their stadium will be renovated next year. One of the locations is Coca Cola Park here in Allentown. Could you imagine baseball every day there?

I’m thinking there might be a college field closer to Moosic, but there is always Bicentennial park… πŸ™‚

Tomorrow will be attending the LV Rollergirls double header. Hope you come out too!

I.L. Playoff Scenarios & Detail

The International League posted some great info this morning on the playoff races. (Link at end of post)

First Round Schedule (Best of Five):

September 7,8
West Division Winner at South Division Winner, North Division Winner at Wild Card Winner

September 9,10*,11*
South Division Winner at West Division Winner, Wild Card Winner at North Division Winner

Governors’ Cup Finals Schedule (Best of Five):

September 13,14
North/Wild Card Series Winner at South/West Division Series Winner

September 15,16*,17*
South/West Division Series Winner at North/Wild Card Series Winner

* If Necessary

With either the Division win or Wild card win, the IronPigs will play in that series. With a Division win there would be home games on Sept. 9th, 10th & 11th. With a Wild Card berth, Home Games on the 7th & 8th. If the Pigs do make the final cut to the Cup Finals, they would have home games on Sept. 15th, 16th & 17th.

If two teams finish tied for the Wild Card, the IL playoffs officially expand
to include both teams. The tied teams will then compete in a one-game
first round series on Tuesday, September 6 to see who will advance to
face the North Division Champion in the traditional four-team format.
The following formula will be used to determine which club will serve as
the home team for the one-game playoff:

1. Most wins in the head-to-head series
2. Club with the highest winning percentage during intradivisional play
3. Club with the highest winning percentage against other division winners
4. Coin toss

That’s the scoop. Enjoy!

OinK!

Cubs Dismiss GM – Just One Year for Ryno?

Our resident Cub fan is probably jumping for joy this morning.

News that Chicago Cubs General Manager Jim Hendry has been dismissed by the club. Assistant GM Randy Bush (That name has come up a lot this week) will take over in the interim.

How does this affect IronPig fans? Well, just about EVERY Cub fan I know spit in the general direction of Wrigley field last year when Sandberg was passed over for the Cub’s manager spot. Could we lose Ryno to the Cubs after just one season in Lehigh Valley?

I’d say the chances are very high.

What do you think?
