IronPig Game Results 7/15/11 – Moss Hogg!

The Pigs took a thriller home tonight before 10,000 very enthusiastic fans tonight defeating the Syracuse Chiefs 7 to 6.

Kevin Frandsen had 2 hits and an RBI in his return to the Pigs and Thompson, Kratz, Overbeck, and Moss had a multi-hit game.

Brandon Moss Hogg is on fire lately. He went 2 for 5 tonight crushing two long home runs, his 16th and 17th of the season.

A 4 inning 5 run effort by starter Bump was erased and Edell received the Win improving his record to 2-2. Walrond and Zagurski each received a hold while Grilli Cheese closed out for his 3rd save of the season.

We had a fun time out in the Noise Nation tonight. Jimmy T and I won trivia while pondering the future possibility of a radio show. There was a tremendous wave sweeping the crowd throughout the 8th inning and tonight our Flingo launch a ball days came to a quick, snapping end. If it had been video taped it would surely be a funniest home video winner.

Anyways, we have a while until the next homestand with a whopping 10 games to look forward to. Get some rest and be ready for the Pigs to take this season into the home stretch!

Pawn Stars at Coca Cola Park?

I was notified this morning that there was a Rick Harrison of the History Channel’s show “Pawn Stars” sighting last night at Coca Cola Park.

I do remember seeing a billboard on Rt 22 showing the Pawn Stars gang would have a show at one of the casino’s in the area. After digging a little, I found the Pawn Stars website (http://www.gspawn.com/) and their crew is touring around the country at various casinos. So a sighting from a reliable source and circumstantial evidence that might place him in the area…. I would say if you think you saw him, you probably did.

Good stuff and thanks to our friends at Philly Pretzels for sharing with us!

IronPigs Game Results & IronPig Game Results 7/14/11

Game 1:
The IronPigs slapped out 7 hits and only scored on Brandon Moss Hogg’s 2 run homer in the 6th losing their first post allstar break game to the Syracuse Chiefs by a final score of 2 to 3. Brian Bass took the loss, his 7th of the season putting his record at 4 wins 7 losses for the year. He didn’t pitch all too bad but the runs weren’t there for the Pigs who tend to score later in games and in a 7 inning double header game it just wasn’t enough.

Arguably the most crucial play in the game came in the bottom of the 5th inning, when with Jeff Larish on 2nd and Dane Sardinha on 1st, Brian Bocock singled and Larish was waved around 3rd by his manager. There didn’t appear to be a play forming at home and the ball was cut off by the 3rd baseman and gunned home. Althought the throw was a bit up the line Larish appeared to jump to his left, avoiding the tag, but Larish collapsed before touching the plate and was tagged out. Trainers spent about 10-15 minutes tending to Larish and he was carried off the field. Initial reports are that something is broken and broken somethings are seldom good. Broken to me sounds like bone and that would essentially end Larish’s season. Thoughts and prayers going out to Larish for a speedy recovery. There was a little debate about sending Larish home on that play. I agreed with sending him home as many throws from the outfield are cut off or off target. The counter argument, with one out had Larish held at 3rd, the tying run would have scored on a weak groundball towards the 2nd baseman would have resulted in only the second out. Again, I love aggressive baserunning and wish the circumstances had turned out better.

We’ll probably see the return of Frandsen sooner rather than later.

Game 2:
With game 1 behind them the Pigs came out strong. Scott Mathieson started the game and allowed only 1 hit in 3 innings. Unfortunately it was a 2 run home run. The Pigs came back with 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning and added 2 more in the 4th. The bullpen took over and Joe Savery received his 1st IronPig win of the season with Grilli getting a hold and Michael Schwimer his 7th save of the season.

See you tomorrow!

3 Little Pigs Went to Utah

Tonight was the long anticipated AAA All Star game in Salt Lake City, Utah. It seems like just yesterday we were excited about the announcement of the 2010 All Star game being held here in our town. Now it’s a year in the past.

For our little piggies:
Erik Kratz went 0 for 2.

Michael Schwimer got to throw 3 pitches as he ended the 8th inning with a double play grounder.

Mike Zagurski came on to get two quick outs in the 9th and that’s all she wrote.. International League defeats the Pacific Coast league by a score of 3-0.

See you tomorrow at the doubleheader. Don’t forget it starts an hour earlier and I hear rumors of a real live stagecoach and some horses being there. Looking back at the mounted color guard a few weeks back I’d recommend that Rich Thompson watch his step in centerfield. 🙂

Transactions – 7/11/11

If you hadn’t heard, Scott Mathieson will be returning to the IronPigs after the All Star break. Also, Joe Savery will be returning to the Pigs after his “transition” to a position player. (Read this first via @PhuturePhilz on Twitter)

Between Reading and Clearwater, Savery is hitting .292 with 12 doubles, 3 triples and 3 home runs along with 31 RBI. Savory also made 6 relief appearances allowing 8 hits and 1 run over 10 innings. He struck out 12 and walked none.

Word on the street is that Savery will enter the IronPigs (currently) depleted bullpen. With the success that IronPigs have had in the Philly pen we might not see some of them back. Of course this also give manager Ryne Sandberg an extra bat on the bench and we all remember those stories of Savery going 2 for 5 and lowering his batting average to under .500 earlier this season.

Might be an extra boost for the team and very happy to have both Savery and Mathieson back on the roster.

Food Challenge at CCP?

If you’ve been following IronPig’s Executive Chef Jan Giejda’s Twitter account, @IronPigsChef, you know that he is preparing a monster food challenge for us hungry fans.

Some photos recently posted:

The roll

Add some bacon

Add burger, cheese and onion rings

The finished burger, next to a 2 liter bottle.

It appears to be a giant cheeseburger with a mass of bacon, cheese and onion rings on a bun the size of a basketball.

So far, no name for this monster burger has been released.

I do have to admit I am not a fan of this year’s tagline, “Pig Out” (I would rather cheer for our Pigs being safe) but seeing these photos makes me want to truly pig out.
