International League Review – Buffalo Bisons Part I

The Buffalo Bisons history begins in 1879 as they played in the National League until 1886 when the team moved into the brand new International League. In 1900 the team came very close to becoming a Major League team but was bumped in favor of the Boston Americans (who would become the Boston Red Sox). Imagine how different baseball history would be if that hadn’t happened. In 1969, Hector Lopez made history becoming the first black manager at the Triple A level. Buffalo kept the team until 1970 when it moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The Bison returned to Buffalo in 1979 as a AA team and in 1985 rejoined the Triple A level leading to its return to the International League in 1997.

The current Bison call Coca Cola Field their home park, their sixth stadium since the team’s inception.

Upcoming Posts

So I heard there was a football game today… anyways, just another day closer to Pitchers & Catchers and until Opening Day.

In the next few weeks I am going to review the International League team by team and finally give my thoughts on who the 2010 Ironpigs will be. If you ever have any questions or comments, feel free to post a comment or email me at editor@lvnoisenation.com.

What the Superbowl Means to Me

Just another day closer to baseball… I will begin reviewing International League opponents next week. Stay tuned!

Personally, I feel New Orleans will fall victim to all the pre-game hype of a rocket fueled quarterback duel. Peyton Manning has too much poise and control to get run over in this game.

My call – Colts over Saints, 31 – 13.

Guzman Steals the Show!

Recently signed Freddy Guzman continues to light up the base paths in the Caribbean Series. Guzman stole home, his third stolen base of the night, to lead the Dominican Republic to a 3-2 win over Venezuela.

I really don’t see Guzman replacing Victorino any time soon but it is quite possible that he ends up in centerfield for the Ironpigs. With him and speedy Rich Thompson in the lineup it could prove a lot of excitement this year for Pig fans!

Transactions 2/2/10

Thanks to our good friend “Decal” we noticed a few more transactions out there.

Infielder Miguel Cairo signed with the Cincinnatti Reds

2008 Ironpig(briefly) Valentino Pascucci has signed with the New York Mets. There is a good chance Pascucci will return to CCP as a Buffalo Bison.

Former Phillies prospect Greg Golson (Traded for John Mayberry Jr.) has been traded to the New York Yankees. Look for him in a Trenton or Scranton uniform this summer.

The Phillies also re-signed Brian Mazone and signed infielder Luis Maza and outfielder Freddy Guzman.

Philly Force Update 02/01/2010

Comment received on our former site in regards to the 2010 NPF season:

We are indeed planning on competing. The team was sold to a new owner in August who ran into problems withhis anticipated financing. The costs of maintaining a first class organization costs seven figures. We have the Greatest fans in the NPF. We will refund any season tickets purchased for 2010 season if wedo not play. We are indeed havingour share of arguments with the NPF but the reason we arenot on the schedule is $$. We hope to have it resolved one way or the other in next 2-3 weeks. Please support us by purchasing merchandice and send your comments in.

As has been said many many times before “May theForce be with you!

Better news Force Fans!! Let’s get out there and support our team!
