Ironpigs – 3, R-Phils – 2, Fans – Winners!

What a great evening for a ballgame! The Pigs had a big inning on prospect BJ Rosenburg and ended up giving the crowd at CCP something to cheer about. Overall the game was slow but the players were very accomodating of us fans.

Rich Thompson, Mike Spidale both acknowleged the Noise Nation and even John Mayberry gave us a shy wave. New Ironpig DeWayne Wise also took to us well and I think we will be having a lot of fun with him in centerfield this season. Early in the game Cody Ransom let a routine ground ball by him at 3rd and when one of the Noise Nation yelled out, “Hey Ransom, you have to get those! You’re not with the Yankees anymore!”, Wise let out a howl and laughed and waved up to us. Welcome aboard new friend!

Another highlight moment would be Brown’s sensational catch in centerfield. Having a very close vantage point, we saw Brown show us at Coca Cola park for the first time why he will be the Phillies future right fielder. Those Philly fans who don’t know him yet will soon find he is more than Jimmy Rollins, more than Chase Utley or Ryan Howard.. this guy has MVP and Hall of Fame career written all over himself. Let’s hope the game treats him well.

The food was great, most stands were open and credit card machines were working. I sampled an italian sausage, cheeseburger and some pierogies. Even got to see our old friends Scott and AnneMarie at the trough!

Adding a few more notes that I forgot. Scott Mathieson was on fire adding two K’s to the OINK sign in one inning of working allowing no hits. There is a new staircase being slowly put together in the outfield lawn, should make it easier for us older folks to get up and down out there. After speaking to the Pig’s GM, Kurt Landes, it appears the Noise Nation land will soon be changing. More details to come on that as it develops.

Good times! Good friends! Can’t wait for the season begins!

What a great game. We did hear you guys yell to Cody Ransom. That was good. It was definately a great way to start the 2010 season!! OINK!!

    What was the official attendance?

    • No idea. It looked to be 3 – 4,000 there though. Just a guess.

I was kind of disappointed by that. I thought we’d have more folks–given the weather and the price and the free tix and all. I mean, I appreciated not having to stand in line for food and beverages, but I take a personal pride in our (we: iron pigs fans) ability to fill that stadium. Short notice I guess…

Great game and a great time last night. As always had fun hanging out with you guys last night!! What a catch by Brown. Can’t wait to see him in Phillies pinstripes. I too think DeWayne Wise is a cool person and will be alot of fun with the fans this season. See you all Opening Day! OINK!!!

I wonder how many people Coca-Cola Park needs to justify opening for a game…

  6. Have they started making/serving that “All-Star” sandwich yet? If so, how big is it?

    • From initial reports, I heard it isn’t available yet.. however there are things at CCP available that just haven’t hit the promotions yet. They might be planning a big “unveiling” of it during the regular season… remember we waited a couple weeks before FeFe was brought in.

        Yeah, I have somebody checking into availability/unveiling. I’ll take a picture…

But, it’s on a kaiser–I picture the same kaiser that holds the big porker–if that gives you any idea of size.

I’ll email a picture of the “gold standard” to Dan.

      • If the Big Porker is the largest pork sandwich allowed by law there must be a lot of warrants out there for bigger pulled pork sandwiches.

Well, you know, quality vs. quantity–I’m not usually negative about anything at CCP, but I’ve had better pork sandwiches…

Sources tell me that the much-desired (OK, by me at least) All-Star Sandwich will be available at the Blast Furnace starting on Opening Day.

1 week! Forcast for 69deg partly cloudy. Or, is it partly sunny? Ack, I forget…

      • I have to say I am very biased when it comes to pulled pork. I’ve been known to slow cook pork shoulders with hickory wood at home to great results. Stop by one of our tailgate parties, I just might make some.
