Opening Day for the Ironpigs!

Today is the day we’ve been waiting for since September of last year! Finally, the Ironpigs will have their first official game of 2010 in Coca Cola Park!

If you hadn’t seen the Morning Call this morning there is a nice article about Ironpig’s Director of Promotions Lindsey Knupp. Lindsey has been a strong supporter of the Noise Nation since its inception and continues to be one of our greatest friends within the organization. The Noise Nation doesn’t thank you enough for your assistance!

Some things I look forward to include:
The first official Pork Race of the year. Hopefully Hambone has been training in the off season.

The “New Look” that Ferrous and FeFe have been rumored to have.

Those Sandwiches that Kram209 won’t stop talking about. Getting hungry just thinking about it now.

The great employees that fill Coca Cola Park each season. Looking forward to a high five from the Parking gang to the jokes of the food stands and even the dreaded launch-a-ball crew.

This season will certainly be a fun one and while most feel the highlight will be the All Star game in July.. I’d rather see a game with just the Ironpigs. Although voting is done by fans so.. can we do it Lehigh Valley? Can we vote in all Ironpigs for the All star game? Hmmm

heh heh, I made the ‘look forward to list’ –albeit indirectly and possibly from being annoying, but I’ll take it.

I know it’s goofy, but I woke up this morning humming that “Flyin’ Like an Iron Pig” song they play during the pregame. I had pork sausage for breakfast and ham for lunch–not taking any chances and not willing to bypass the Pastrami All Star…

    Is that today?????? 😉

Things I will miss at CCP this year:
    Mario J. Donnangelo.
In case you missed it, here’s a portion of Keith Groller’s April 13th blog about Mario:
    ___________________
“Perhaps the saddest thing about his passing to me is that I know he loved going to the IronPigs games. He loved taking his grandson out to the ballpark. Over the previous two years, I must have bumped into Mario and his grandson a dozen times over at Coca-Cola Park.
Typically, Mario always had a smile and a joke for me.
‘Why aren’t you up eating the free food in the pressbox with your buddy Schuler,’ he’d say to me if he saw me down on the concourse level.

I know he loved Coca-Cola Park and desperately wanted the PIAA to consider holding state playoff games there. Mario, of course, was a PIAA official for many years and even after retiring, he had to stay involved.

When the PIAA brass came to look at Coca-Cola Park last summer, Mario was their tour guide.

You see, Mario was proud of anybody and everything that came out of the Lehigh Valley. He was a Bethlehem guy, but loved the whole area and seemed to know everybody as well.

Again, he was a great ambassador for us, and the Lehigh Valley sports world has lost a great friend.”

    Rest in Peace, Mr. D.
