Wise Signs With Toronto – Juan Samuel to Skipper O’s

The Ironpigs announced this afternoon that former outfielder DeWayne Wise signed a minor league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays today.

Also former Phillie Juan Samuel was named manager of the Baltimore Orioles.

Also seeing rumblings of Jimmy Rollins tossing BP today via Twitter. We need him to be healthy to get our starting shortstop back!

I did see Juan Samuel on the bench last night (ok..highlights-maybe low lights-on Sportscenter I think). I hope he does a better job the their former manager. BUT…you can’t do much worse.
I hope Wise does a good job with the minor league team. I still wonder what he was thinking.

Is this really an upgrade for DeWayne Wise? The Blue Jays assigned him to extended spring training in Dunedin, FL.

The AAA Las Vegas 51s are loaded with good outfielders as are the Toronto Blue Jays.

    Las Vegas 51s: 23-33
    Lehigh Valley Ironpigs: 20-35

    DeWayne Wise, age 32: .272-4-13.

    Las Vegas 51s Outfielders:

    Aaron Mathews, age 28(DL): .324-4-9
    Jorge Padilla, age 30: .315-4-19
    Chris Lubanski, age 25: .308-11-28
    Chris Aguila, age 31: .302-3-16
    Jeremy Reed, age 29: .265-2-9
Adam Calderone, age 26: .263-2-4 (recently promoted from AA where his stats were: .283-8-33).

Jeremy Reed is currently on the Blue Jays big league roster. Perhaps Wise feels he can compete for his job as a #4 or #5 outfielder.

    • I wonder if the “bad apple” theory we had earlier this season came to fruition with why Wise left? If there is an antagonist in there somewhere the classy thing to do would be just to walk away…
