Let It Rain! Game Notes & More

I apologize for not having this out sooner. I had too good of a time at yesterday’s game and it ended up with a good night’s sleep.

The game didn’t start too good. Starter Drew Carpenter had allowed 4 runs going into the rain delay and the only Ironpig run was the solo “tornado assisted” homerun just before the delay. I say tornado as there was a tornado watch all afternoon and that ball would have been caught by the 2nd baseman had it not been sucked into the 25mph+ winds blowing straight out to right field.

Then came the rain. I didn’t mind too much. My garden needs it. I got to spend about an hour hanging out with Scott and Annemarie at the Trough.

Then the sun came out and it brought along the Ironpig bats! The Pigs exploded for 10 runs and 17 hits in the final 5 innings to win 11 to 5! Add in a five Charlotte errors and this game looked like a rout in the box score.

I could not type anything today without mentioning that Andy Tracy got his 1000th and 1001st RBI during this game. He doubled and tripled along with a walk to continue his rampage towards all star weekend.

Speaking of the All star game, if you haven’t voted yet, you can do so on the International League website.

More news of former Ironpig Lou Marson. He hit his first MLB homerun yesterday raising his BA to .195.

Down in Reading, the Phillies finally realized what the Mariners found out last season. Phillipe Aumont is not a starting pitcher. He was reassigned from Reading to Clearwater.

Figueroa gets the start tonight for the ‘pigs, in Duckworth’s spot, I believe. Duck’ had been a bit weak his last two times out as a starter.

I’m going to miss out on free food on the club-level tonight as I’ll be in Orefield for a kids game. Kids trump ‘pigs every time! I’ll be there for autograph night tomorrow though.

Friday’s my turn for the season-ticket BP party. Anyone been to one yet?

I also have my turn at the party on Friday. I heard last Friday was the first one they had, but batting practice was not held because the team had the awful travel day coming home from Toledo. Free food is always good.

    Aumont demoted – what?

Were we not all told how great of a genius Ruben Amaro is or has my memory failed me???

    Quick.

Let’s trade away Domonic Brown to make up for Aumont.

    Hooray Philadelphia Phillies…

    We love you (not!)

Good hustle down the 1st baseline by Rich Thompson in the 3rd inning on Sunday resulted in a basehit when to my eyes (and those of Knights coach Gary Ward) the throw beat him to first base and the umpire missed the call in Thompson’s favor. It happens sometimes. Just ask Armando Galarraga.

I don’t consider it a big deal to send Aumont to Clearwater. That way they can keep him pitching regularly to work on his control. Seems like he has good stuff but he just doesn’t know where it’s going. Even before the season began most scouting reports said his command is less than reliable because he is still learning how to pitch. Prior to 2010 Aumont only had made 8 starts as a pro. Yeah, I got the tickets for BP night back in early April–I had already given my tickets away for 6/11 and had to ask for them back 😦 And, yes, I’m more excited for free food than for BP from right field.
