I don’t do this often, and I honestly don’t want to hurt anyones feelings but I really wonder how National Anthem singers are selected. Do they audition well and then choke at their big moment or are they just bad? I’ve heard from several people who told me they were not asked to return after an audition so it leads me to think that there is a talent base from which to draw from… not that they just throw the kid from the Dip’n’Dots stand out there. Actually, they did that once last year and he was great. I really can’t say the same for the Reba McIntyre impersonator they had out there tonight. She had one thing going for her and that was remembering all the words, where the person a few nights before did not. Anyways, that all aside…
The Pigs lost tonight to the Chiefs 0 to 7. They had one hit or I should say Domonic Brown had one hit. The rest of the team got skunked. The real story tonight was Jason Jones. Jones retired 23 straight batters before allowing a hit to Brown. It came very close to not being a hit. The ball was hit hard and deflected off his glove and away from the Syracuse shortstops reach. He could just as easily have snagged that ball and led the Ironpigs down embarrassment lane with a perfect game.
I’ve only witnessed one perfect game in person. Last summer Softball Legend Jenny Finch tossed a perfect game against the now defunct Philly Force at Bicentennial Park here in Allentown. I give the edge to Finch as she completed the game and is also a heck of a lot prettier than Jones.
With all that going on, the highlight of the night was a new fan hanging out with the Noise Nation in centerfield. No, it wasn’t the 10 year old walking around in coveralls and a gas mask (never did get a picture of that). This little guy was about 2 years old and was very involved in the game. He was clapping, he was ringing bells, he was giving high fives and sharing smiles with everyone while sporting his “Lady killer” T-Shirt. He even helped us send a whammy ala Philly Phanatic style to Syracuse pitcher Jones.
Good times and Good people! See you Sunday!
Oink!

According to the latest Baseball America blog, the Phillies released Josh Fogg after 3 bad starts at Reading. He had 62 career major league wins but was 0-2 11.32 in AA. The Phillies had signed Fogg and Ty Taubenheim just before the season began.
Ryan Madson pitched 2 scoreless innings for the Reading Phillies Friday night. With Reading going on the road on Monday, could he possibly be on his way to the Lehigh Valley for the final 3 games vs. Pawtucket?
I’ve been down there with Tyler, and we all know what he does, but a 2-yr-old? That’s mindboggling… 😯
Watching at home on TV2, I’m usually spared anthem singing, and I’m glad…
I hear you with the National Anthem singers. The guy a few days ago, didn’t know the words. And that’s not the first time this season. I can’t sing very well, but I sure as hell know the words to the National Anthem! UGH….
I watched some of the game on tv last night (I would take naps here and there as I’m still getting over this bug). It was an UGLY game! Our Pigs couldn’t get their bats going at all.
I’m not sure we will make the party on Sunday, but we will see you all Sunday night at the game.
In defense of anyone who has ever messed up the words of the National Anthem, it’s easy to sing it at home but when you’re singing it in a stadium the sound is coming back to you a second or two after you’re singing the words. If you get caught up listening to yourself on the stadium sound system it’s easy to get lost. It’s like calling in to a talk radio show and listening to yourself on the 5 second over the air delay instead of listening over the phone. You get lost very easily. Earplugs are the way to go.
Nobody cares if whoever has a beautiful voice or not – this is NOT a stepping stone to American Idol.
But, get the d*** words to the song right.
Sing no faster or slower than was originally intended.
Then get off the d*** field so the IronPigs can play ball!
