First off I would like to thank everyone who attended the Tailgate party prior to yesterday’s game. The sun was hot, the breeze was cool and there was a lot of food and fun.
The crowd at The Coke again filled it to its capacity at 10,000. It was an enthusiastic crowd as I heard many cheers and boos and a nice 4 or 5 lap wave got started in the later innings. I love to see stuff like that.
Ferrous and FeFe came out pregame with one of their “skits.” Ferrous pretends to faint about eating a hot dog, FeFe comes out to rescue him only to find that Ferrous was playing possum and stole a very non-family environment kiss in the process. FeFe quickly pushed Ferrous to the ground and delivered a swift kick to Ferrous’ crotch. I wonder when the 1980’s era Ferrous and FeFe after school specials will begin.
Anyways, there was a game too. Pigs win 6 to 4 against the Pawtucket Red Sox!
Can I say it enough… DOMONIC BROWN! Brown only had one hit last night, a 400+ foot homerun to the deepest part of centerfield, but he ended the night with 4 RBI driving in one on a sacrifice fly and one on a ground out. Brown seems to have everything. Strong and accurate throwing arm, speed (and hustle), hits for average, hits for power, hits in clutch situation, can leap the PPL building in a single bound! Just amazing. To top it off he has an incredible outlook on the game and a great attitude about playing ball. He truly looks like he’s having fun out there.
JA Happ’s rehab start looked much better than the last one. He was in the high 80’s topping out at 91 (that I saw) and he had a lot of bite on his breaking ball. He seemed to tire in the heat around the 4th inning and became a little wild. A little wild isn’t too bad if you are throwing 95+ but at 90- it wasn’t getting the job done. Happ threw 103 pitches, 62 for strikes, in 5.1 innings allowing 6 hits, 4 runs, walking 4 and striking out one.
Stutes came on for 1.2 innings of relief and earned his first AAA win. He allowed no hits or runs, walked one and struck out one.
I suppose the only pitcher who missed the memo that I was hot and tired after that 17 strikeout performance two nights ago was Scott Mathieson. He came on in the 8th and struck out a quick 4 for his 15th save.
I have to also mention Melvin Dorta. He was 3 for 4 tonight raising his average to .308. What a sleeper this guy has become.
The new improved Ironpigs will compete again tonight at The Coke vs. the Pawsox and again will have post game fireworks.
OINK!

I had a good time at the picnic before the game. I just wish I was more talkative, and more friendly then I was. I just haven’t been feeling right.
I was on the concourse for the jersey auction. I didn’t get a jersey, which my bank account thanks me for. HOWEVER, I did see that Domonic Brown’s jersey went for $1,3000.00. Yes, you read that correctly, 13 hundred dollars, or one thousand three hundred dollars!! INSANE!!
Brown is a machine. He’s one great player!!
What’s funny is that even if he does end up a hall of famer… that jersey won’t be nearly worth as much as that person paid (in today’s dollars)
How ’bout Hupp last night? He’s lucky he won. Twice he could’ve sent the runner to tie the game but held him at third. The first time, I forget who was running, it was a close call so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. The second time with Duffy flying around the bases I’m not sure what he was thinking. Very questionable calls IMO.
I noticed that too. There was no outs, leaving runners at first and second for Domonic Brown. I can kiiiiinda see that one but, yeah, I know what you mean.
me three. I think it was Dorta. He runs well, too. I think maybe Hupp was just gun-shy after that close play at third (nice dive by Duff; I thought he was out, but from my seat I couldn’t see the tag/dodge) and the nice slide by Mayberry at second as well.
One other note: The one play at the plate for the sox, which caused a chant to errupt down the right field line: he was easily safe. There was no tag and the throw was late. I had a good view of that one. Nice try by the pigs, though.
Free food on the club level tonight. OINK!
17 strikeouts? I thought there was only 15 Ks for the new Wawa sign this season.
What did you guys do?
they posted their ‘K’s on twitter…
Posting K’s on Twitter is not quite the same thing.
Wawa needs to call whoever the sign-maker is and order some more Ks.
Perhaps this is why the IronPigs pitchers do not consistently strike out more opposing batters.
Even if only subconsciously, the IronPigs pitchers know that, if they exceed 15 Ks in any given game, the additonal strikeouts will not officially be recognized on the off-spring of what was the coolest sign in all of minor league baseball in America.
Apathy, intended or not, is holding back the IronPigs in the International League standings.
I blame Wawa
(it’s a corporation, anyway)
