Transactions 7/12/10

The Red Sox granted pitcher Boof Bonser free agency. Possibly someone the Phillies could use?

Rich Thompson (pitcher) was recalled to the Angels. Looks like he won’t be playing in the AAA All star game after all.

The Dodgers signed LHP Jack Taschner.

The Mariners released Mike Koplove.

OinK!

Per Zolecki, Dane Sardinha cleared waivers and accepted assignment to the Ironpigs.

I also noticed that the Pirates optioned Jason Jaramillo to Indianapolis which means he could be playing against the Ironpigs next week. Funny that Rotowire says they did it so he can get more playing time during the allstar break. I guess they don’t know Indianapolis has their allstar break at the same time as the Pirates.

    Decal,

That’s some quality reading between-the-lines I am sure Rotowire will not appreciate.

I also noticed that the Braves signed Willy Tavares. He could be back in Allentown with the Gwinnett Braves in early August.

From Atlanta Braves beat writer David O’Brien:

“The Braves signed outfielder Willy Taveras to a minor-league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Gwinnett, where he went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in his debut Sunday (July 4) after entering as a pinch-hitter and playing right field.

The Braves are taking a shot to see whether Taveras might regain his form. It’s a move that comes without financial risk, since Oakland is paying most of his $4 million salary this season.

Taveras, 28, has been released three times this year by Oakland, Washington and Philadelphia, most recently by the Phillies.”

Update: Willy Taveras is currently 3-23 .130 for Gwinnett.
