Transactions 7-21-10

RHP Michael Cisco promoted to Lehigh Valley from Reading (AA).

RHP Nate Bump assigned to Reading (AA) from Lehigh Valley.

I guess the 8 runs Bump gave up a couple nights ago Kyle Kendrick’ed him to Reading….

Wow….Bump goes from Triple A All-Star to Double A. What a shocker. But, given the way he pitched the other night…go figure!

    Wow is right.

    What a joke.

One bad game, as compared to the whole of the season, and Bump is bounced?

The Philadelphia Phillies minor league organization is an absolute and complete joke, and a very, very, very bad and STALE one, as well.

Good thing the IronPigs give out free red balloons to all youth fans exiting the stadium…

I’m not surprised, and it’s about time. Young blood is a good thing. I’ll take a young 23 year old prospect over a 34 year old trying to hold onto a childhood dream any day of the week. It’s time to see what the young guys can do in AAA because they’re the ones who may help the Phillies somewhere down the road.

Yeah, my first thought was that this was quite an over-reaction given one bad performance–something that’s going to happen to an old sinkerballer once in a while.

On further evaluation, it may be simply to get a starter up from Reading–maybe they’re afraid that the Velandia move has been done too often. Bump was the last one to pitch and the least available other than Happ. Happ of course, should be headed for Philly soon given his good game last night coupled with Moyer’s injury.

So my take is that pitchers will continue to move around over the next couple of weeks. Carpenter, Bump, Figueroa, Kendrick–all could be on the move again soon. This doesn’t even take the trade stuff into account.

I’m going to the game in Reading tomorrow night. I’m just hoping that I get to see some Reading players, not all April IronPigs. 😉 Here’s another thought: if Tracy’s not able to play by Friday, what about bringing Rizzotti up from Reading (AT to DL for a week or two) to see if he can hit AAA pitching like he’s destroying AA? I’m with Decal; I want to see some new blood, where possible. I’m not sure if Cisco’s the best guy, but let’s see how he does.

    Sometimes the balloons are blue…

No wonder quality minor league veterans do not seem to flood the Phiadelphia organization en masse year after year.

Not only do other Major League organizations seem to PAY their minor league veterans more for minor league service (yeah, we did the research last year and the year before – challenge us at your peril) but perhaps the players are treated better, too.

But keep clutching onto the Player Development thing as tightly as possible.

BTW – exactly how many IronPigs have graduated to and stayed at the Major League level in the past two and a half seasons?

I would not be anywhere NEAR as angry if I did not have to listen to the spin and utter BS all the time.

The only good news is everyone else appears to be quite content with the on-field product.

Blue for the balloons would definitely be a more appropriate color for the IronPigs at Coca-Cola Park.

It is interesting to note that Rollins, Howard and Hamels appear in R-Phils garb on the header of the official AA Reading Phillies website…

…I guess it’s all up to Domonic Brown now to become the next great Philadelphia Phillies superstar (for the IronPigs website header, of c0urse)!

    Trade anyone?
