John Mayberry was promoted to the Phillies today as 1st baseman Ryan Howard was sent to the disabled list.
Tweet rumors are saying Mayberry took some grounders at first today and could fill in there. Probably a more suitable position for him.

So I guess the Ironpigs are back to 9 everyday players and just 2 outfielders again.
So should I wear by jersey to the game on Thursday? You know, just in case? I can’t hit well, but I make up for it with my lack of fielding.
The last 2 days of the upcoming homestand on August 11-12 vs. Pawtucket would be days 10 and 11 for Ryan Howard on the DL. Not a bad opportunity for him to start his rehab assignment as a designated hitter.
This should blow the mind of whoever’s going with me the 12th.
Now that the Phillies have obtained first baseman Mike Sweeney from Seattle someone will have to go once he reports. I guess it’s possible Mayberry could be the odd man out so he could back in Allentown for the game Thursday night. I’m assuming he still has options remaining.
This should blow the mind of the front office, esp. if he doesn’t have any.
If out of options, Mayberry would easily pass waivers with me…
…my team would neither claim nor pay the waiver wire fee for a player who reportedly jogs after balls in the outfield.
I prefer players like Andy Tracy, who chase after foul balls knowing full well the odds are that the ball will clearly make the seats.
