Most Important Off-Season Announcement!!!

The Ironpigs have announced a fan vote to select the newest feature food item to be served at Coca Cola Park in the 2011 season!

Among the contenders:
The “Three Little Pigs” Sandwich – Feast on this: Three different types of meat featuring four strips of mouth-watering bacon, over two inches of thick ham and four ounces of succulent pulled pork. A rich barbeque sauce compliments the meat that is served on a fresh Kaiser bun.

2 Inches of ham? Is that in length, width or thickness? Succulent pulled pork or what is served on the “Big Porker” and Pork Nachos? So many questions on this one that I can’t bring myself to vote for it.

Diggity Dog – The hot dog has been reinvented with Black Angus beef, two slices of hot-off-the-grill bacon and melted American cheese on a hearty steak roll. Savor the taste with ultimate array of toppings including fried onion straws and barbeque sauce.

Beef hot dog – Good. Bacon on the grill – Ok. Hearty steak roll – Might be too much bread.. but in my radar.

Double Blast Burger – Imagine the double cheese-burger flipped on its head! Two, half-pound beef patties, two slices of American cheese, French fries and coleslaw on a fresh Kaiser bun.

I like the coleslaw. I really like coleslaw on pork. Never really tried it on a cheeseburger but I like where they are headed with this.

Loaded Fries – French fries crammed with cheese, pulled pork barbeque, chopped bacon, sour cream, chopped tomato and heart-pounding spicy jalapeno peppers. Don’t forget to grab some napkins!

In a unique twist to the popular Philly Fries (Basically a cheesesteak on fries rather than a roll), they add pulled pork. Noteably not “succulent” pulled pork. Again I wonder if it’s the same stuff that I’ve come to align with a sprint to the restroom. Sour cream and bacon though… I like sour cream and bacon.

Of all the options to vote for.. if I have to vote I would take the beef hot dog sans the cheese as I have a feeling it might end up with the whiz fountain that adorns the nachos.

My Coca Cola Park favorite remains the Pretzel Burger. It’s quality remained constant, even if the beef patty was reduced in size towards the end of the season. The All Star sandwich seemed to meet a similiar fate in August. I guess $7 only buys so much food.

Anyways, feel free to comment and voting can be done here.

  1. As a “non”-fan of melted cheese on a meat sandwich I’d say my vote would have to go to #1 The Three Little Pigs sandwich despite the fact that over 2 inches of ham will likely cause about a weeks worth of water retention. I get the dry heaves just thinking about cheeseburgers, cheese dogs and cheese steaks.

Must I vote? None of them seem appetizing to me. LOL

I love food. It’s something my body needs anyway. I think I’m gonna need some demo versions of these to sample before I give my vote. 🙂 I’ll give my final assessment later…

Having watched yet another loser American pop “star” butcher the National Anthem prior to the Super Bowl and listening to all the Apologists make excuses for an alleged PROFRESSIONAL SINGER today, I find myself losing my appetite for American sports rapidly.

    • When I think professional I think of a quality, not an achievement. Simply having a job (or profession) does not make you a professional in my eyes.

The definition I most agree with is:
“A high standard of ethics, behavior and work activities while carrying out one’s profession (as an employee, self-employed person, career, enterprise, business, company, or partnership/associate/colleague, etc.). The professional owes a higher duty to a client, often a privilege of confidentiality, as well as a duty not to abandon the client just because he or she may not be able to pay or remunerate the professional. Often the professional is required to put the interest of the client ahead of his own interests.”

Christina Aguilera may be a highly paid singer, but she is not a professional.

    Kram,

Very thoughtful and logical analysis. Not to mention scientific process. Nice work, then.

  6. Sheesh! I was just getting over the report (on TV2, sadly) that The GYRO Company (about 1.5mi away at Airport Center) was going to serve its namesake sandwich there this year!
Given these choices, I’d opt for the fries. I can’t recall if I’ve suffered the same fate Dan has from the pork.
Had no idea pretzel-burgers had gotten smaller…

They all sound awful. The pretzel burger is the best, because it’s the only place in the ballpark you can get vegetables (aside fried sweet potatoes and corn on the cob which doesn’t really count). How about something like grilled vegetable skewers over at Jaindl? The people at the ballpark are trying to kill us! (OK, admittedly this is coming from someone who painstakingly lost 72 lbs in 2010, but stalled hopelessly during baseball season – I have no willpower!)

  8. FWIW, the Tulsa Drillers (AA affiliate of the Rockies) have a stand that sells Chicago-style hot dogs, and they invariably sell out by the third inning. If y’all don’t have such a thing in Allentown, your marketing folks might want to look into it. If you can get a Tulsan to eat a hot dog without chili, cheese, white onions, and ground red pepper, you know you’re onto something.

  9. Oh, and when I was vegging last year, the guy running the stand was great about leaving the dog off mine and just letting me have a bun full of toppings, which is still a pretty great sandwich.

I was in the process of breaking down the choices when I got distracted by “Chicago-style” hot dogs mentioned above. My brother-in-law lives down the street from the Drillers, so I’m somewhat familiar with the team. If Chicago Hot Dogs was a choice, I’d be voting for that… (google it if you want!)

But it’s not, so let’s break them down.
    1. The Loaded Fries are derivative and unoriginal. A nice addition but not worthy of anything special.

The common theme for the rest of them is the roll. You know, it might be the largest pulled pork allowed by law, but on a stale crumbly roll, it does me no good. I can’t get that dry roll out of my head when I consider:

    2. Three meats on one sandwich sounds good, and bacon is an automatic. However, I’m not sure pulled-pork plus ham makes sense. I’m not sure the roll will hold it anyway. Nope to the three piggies. Nice name though.

    3. I like cole slaw on sandwiches always. But, my kids get burgers at almost every game, and sometimes they’re dry. Plus, I’m not sure the roll will hold the two patties plus the fixins. I’ll stick with the All-Star or the deli sandwiches for my coleslaw fix for now. Nope to the big burger.

    4. Dan’s worried about the roll, but at least the steak roll should be hearty enough to hold the dog and the toppings. I’m voting Diggity.
