Ironpig’s Final Bobblehead for 2011 Will Be…

Pat Gillick.

Yup, Pat Gillick.

Saw this on Twitter via @lindseyknupp:
“The IronPigs final bobblehead of the year will be of the newly inducted HOFamer Pat Gillick on July 26th!”

I have to admit, I didn’t recognize the name off the top of my head. I looked at Wikipedia and found that he is a former MLB executive and was recently inducted to the Hall of Fame via the Veteran’s Committee. He also was the Phillies General Manager in 2008 when they won the World Series.

I can clearly see kids and adults fighting for position in line to obtain this desireable bobblehead….

Is it something no one really needs but will be a collectors item one day when he dies? Because my mom will still try and get there early enough to get one. 😛

    • As with most mass produced sports memorabilia, the value era ended sometime in the early 90’s. These might initially appeal to someone who has a connection to the person, i.e. like the Andy Tracy bobblehead to a 9 yr old who got his autograph, but for someone as obscure as a former GM…. not so sure about that. To me, it’s still a cheap piece of plastic that should end up in the hands of a child. Just my opinion.

There are those still, who will wait in line for hours to receive something for free.

Well, good thing that day isn’t in my ticket plan. Speaking of bobbleheads, I got both the Andy Tracy and Brian Schneider ones last year. Sunday I gave them, and 4 tickets for a game, and some other Iron Pigs stuff, to a friend who is running an auction at a dance to raise money for MDA. I am pretty sure they will get him a few buck extra. Maybe next year I’ll have different ones.

  3. Am I the only one who thinks bobbleheads are scary as hell? They always make me think of something out of a Stephen King novel.

    • I don’t know.. they always seem to agree with what I’m saying 🙂

      • Yeah, but they always have kind of a crazed look in their eyes, like they’re just agreeing with me to lull me into complacency so I won’t put up a fight when they execute whatever creepy plot they’re hatching in their oversized heads. Plus they look like that kid on the porch in “Deliverance.”
