April 9th – What Should I Do? Ironpigs or Steelhawks

So I’m torn about what to do on April 9th. Can you help me make my decision?

Here’s the deal. I have 2 sets of season tickets. 1 for the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs. 1 for the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks.

Both teams have a game on April 9th. Both games start around 7:00pm.

I will present a case for each team:

Ironpigs

Since 2008, I’ve missed only 3 games (All in 2008). Take 72 games per season, add in 3 R-Phils exhibition games and 1 Phillies exhibition… that’s 215 games attended at Coca Cola Park. (2 exhibition games have been in Reading) I have not missed a game since April 30th of 2008. Has anyone out there attended more games than me? (non-Ironpig employees)

The Phillie Phanatic will be performing at The Coke on April 9th. Who doesn’t love the Phanatic? Although, he never comes into the outfield to see us and photo ops are pretty rare.

It will be cold out there on April 9th. I’m no weatherman, but it’s cold in PA in April and there is the saying about April Showers…

Steel Hawks

The Steelhawks have but 7 home games all season.

I’ve attended the first game and can begin an “I’ve attended every home game” streak.

It will be inside Stabler Arena and I’ll be nice and warm and dry.

The Steel Hawks encourage Horns and Bells and noise!

We get to hang out with the team after the game. (That ever happen at the Ironpigs? Well if you’re an attractive female.. possibly)

So there you have it. Do I keep my 2+ year streak going for the Ironpigs and bail on our new friends, toughing it out in the harsh April weather, or do I take in a Steelhawks game with a Horn and Bell in hand?

What do you think?

You can do both if you really want to… leave the IronPigs game early and go to the Steelhawks game.

I’ll just text you updates of the IronPigs game. My commitment is with the Ironpigs.

The case for the Steelhawks is quite strong, I must say…

…perhaps the IronPigs might learn something from this post?

And the Phillie Phanatic, as well…

…but I won’t hold my breath and sit next to the phone.

Go to the steelhawks. You can cash in your unused ironpigs ticket for another game and bring someone with you (Monday – Thursday only of course )

From your 2 arguments it sounds like you already made up your mind.

You brought up the thought first, but Mother Nature might end up assisting with your final decision-making process…

I understand how important it is to keep the streak alive.
    1) Do you feel like you have more fun or enjoy yourself more at one over the other?
    2) If you don’t split your time, I would say Steel Hawks. There are so many IronPigs games & so few Steel Hawks games. Your attendance record for the IronPigs is NEAR perfect. Your Steel Hawks attendance record would be perfect.
    3) While I wish both teams much success, the Steel Hawks are new & still getting established. How would you feel about the hole in your streak if you missed one game for a team that was only around for a couple of years?

How can you even consider missing a ‘Pigs game?! For the SteelHawks no less! Semper Fi!

  12. Real sports are measured in innings. Everything else is just a way to kill time between the Series and Opening Day.

Well Dan, I’m in the same predicament. I very seldom miss an IronPigs game myself. Like you I have a streak going myself although yours is a little bit longer. As you know I went to that 1st Steelhawks game and had a blast. After that, I got myself a Steelhawks season ticket. This team took me by storm. Being able to bring the noise was awesome something that really can’t be done with the ‘Pigs. I had a nice chat with the Steelhawks ticket rep and he welcomed us and the noise!! With that said, we all know what kind of weather we have in April and considering the ‘Hawks only have 7 games and we have all summer for the ‘Pigs, plus you know the “rough” off season I had, I think it’s clear what to do. I know what I’m doing. It is a tough choice to make, continue seeing the ‘Pigs keeping the streak alive or support our new team the ‘Hawks who appear to love us and the noise.
