Ironpigs Take Down R-Phils – Game Photos

The R-Phils bats were as cold as the weather tonight as the Ironpig’s took a commanding 4 run lead in the first and held on to win with a final score of 6 to 1.

We got to see a nice selection of the organization’s prospects tonight. Two of the pitchers involved in last offseason’s Cliff Lee trade got into the game and J.C. Ramirez didn’t fare very well. He started the game and got roughed up by what appears to be an invigorated Ironpigs offense. We also saw Phillipe Aumont on the mound for the R-Phils.

Other than being bitter cold with the wind, the game was rather quiet. I would guess there was about 1,000 fans in attendance. Got word that players were signing autographs before game to include manager Ryne Sandberg. Had to chuckle when radio broadcaster Matt Provence called the game as Vance Worley pitching for about 3 batters before he realized it was Bass on the mound. 🙂

Andy who? I have a feeling that Jeff Larish will soon become a fan favorite. The 3rd baseman hit the ball hard tonight and I have a feeling he will keep Scott and Annemarie on their toes out in the Trough area this season.

Did I mention it was cold?

There were a few things that stood out for me tonight. I stopped to get a Gyro and they were having equipment issues. Settled for a burger. Found out that there is a new burger on the menu, as much an All Star sandwich sub the pastrami for a burger patty. Looked pretty good. Also a bacon cheeseburger and the option to have bacon cheese fries as well. The pierogies I got looked worse than any other pierogies I’ve ever had… Mrs. T’s might not be in the game this season.

If this post seems rambling, it’s probably because it is. My face is wind burnt and I haven’t regained feeling in my feet yet. Other than watching a few father/sons playing catch on the outfield lawn area.. there wasn’t too much going on.

Glad to have the baseball season here. Even more happy to see my summer friends and ready for the season to begin.

Some nice photos submitted by Noise Nation member Cheryl Pursell below… enjoy!

FeFe reportedly had some cosmetic surgery this off-season. Can you see a difference?

I still miss the original Ferrous and Fefe… But the new ones are growing on me. From that pic, Fefe looks a little bit better than she did at the end of last season.
Still wish I could have been at the game, even if it was freezing.

Easy there on the Andy who? comment…. Whooppeee Larish hit 2 doubles off the Reading phils. Wasn’t Andy a nice guy and played hard for you all for 3 years. I remember he did!!!!!! NOt sure why the bashing of him has already started.
Lets see how many Larish hits out of the yard this year. He is not really known for doing that much in the HR department.
There is no need to bash Andy because he is gone now, we enjoyed watching him play and is a very gracious person. If you think you can do better why don’t you get out on the field..

    • lol, I’m not bashing Andy. He is a great guy and always will be. I was trying to point out a possible replacement for the “fan favorite” void left here in the Valley when he left for greener pastures. I’ve shared a many beer with him and will always hold him in high regards. I guess the disguised humor I attempted wasn’t as apparent as I thought it would be. 🙂

Andy Tracy, age 36. He has played in 1,016 games in his 10 years in AAA: 3,556 at bats, 183 homeruns in AAA for an average of 1 homerun every 19.4 at bats in his AAA career.
Jeff Larish, age 28. He has played in 256 games in his 3 years in AAA: 929 at bats, 47 homeruns in AAA for an average of 1 homerun every 19.8 at bats in his AAA career.
At that pace, if Jeff Larish had the same number of career AAA at bats as Andy Tracy, Larish would have 180 homeruns compared to Andy’s 183.
Also of note, as a member of the Toledo Mud Hens Jeff Larish hit 4 homeruns in his last 7 games at Coca-Cola Park and has a .333 lifetime average in the Ironpigs’ home ballpark (15-45).

Hence, that is why you don’t disguise humor. Yes it was cold, lucky if they had 1000 people there. Oh yeah, it was cold, the new beirgarten had heat, yes it was cold, not many new items in the store for kids, yes it was cold, funnel cake was better than last years, oh yeah, it was cold! Enjoy the team! It is about time a pro team made it here in Allentown.
