Ironpig Pitchers Rolling! Game Results 5/10/11

Ironpig pitchers have led the way to wins in the first two games in a 4 game set in Toledo.

The Pigs got on the board early with a solo shot by Frandsen putting the Pigs up 1-0.

The Pigs tacked on 2 more in the 7th and that’s all they needed.

Pitcher Brian Gordon hasn’t allowed an earned run in 16.2 innings this season. He went 6.2 innings today striking out 5 and scattering 3 hits. Michael Schwimer came on to pitch 1.1 innings without allowing a hit.

Zagurski came on in the 9th to allow a triple, followed by an RBI single to give Toledo a run and some late hope. A strikeout and a quick double play ended the game and the Pigs win by a final score of 3 to 1.

Of note – Domonic Brown has extended his hitting streak to 15 games, including last season.

Isn’t this the 2nd time the team is 4 games over .500 ? Thanks.

What a pitching performance by Gordon. The team seems to be playing well right now and having a good time. I’m seeing a lot of smiles while watching the games.

In comparison by year, the Ironpigs record on the day they won their 18th game (unofficial):
    2011: 18-14 (May 10)
    2010: 18-28 (May 24)
    2009: 18-27 (May 27)
    2008: 18-38 (May 29)
10-5 road record this year is terrific. Let’s hope it gets better before the upcoming homestand.
    Toledo Pitchers next 2 days:
Wednesday: Thad Weber, RHP 1-2 5.19. His stats are a little deceiving because 4 of his 6 starts were pretty good.
Thursday: Charlie Furbush, LHP 2-3 2.97. This guy is a finesse lefty who has been outstanding in 5 of his 6 starts. His one bad start was a Ryan Feierabend-like performance against Pawtucket. Interesting because his style is very similar to Feierabend and both got crushed by the PawSox.

Meanwhile, I can’t resist pointing out that the Cubs are in next-to-last place in their division. Good thing they got a no-name lifer to run that team instead of hiring some spoiled, pretty-boy Hall of Famer who insists on winning, eh? I mean, Sandberg talks a good show about respect, but the man clearly has no regard for tradition. You just can’t trust a guy like that with something as rare and precious as a 103-year record of abject failure.
