Could Thompson Get the Call?

Word coming out of Philadelphia is that Joe Blanton and Shane Victorino will be heading to the Disabled List.

So Vance Worley goes back up.. what about a quality centerfielder whose been doing well lately? I am really hoping Rich Thompson gets the call.

Thompson has not been with a big league team since 2004 when he was in 6 games for KC with one at bat.

Looking at who the Ironpigs have to offer, (noting that Brown is said to not be in the running) you have Brandon Moss, Delwyn Young and Cory Sullivan.

I’m rooting for Rich.. who are you hoping to see get the call?

    “I’m rooting for Rich”……………….ditto

  2. RICH all the way. Jim Salisbury just said on Twitter that the frontrunners are Belliard & Young.

R.T. without question…even only a week or so being paid at the Major League level will be a lucrative and most-deserved reward for one of the IronPigs all-time best soldiers.

Well you know who I’m rooting for….Richie T!!! I think it would be great to see him up there. I think he deserves a shot at getting back to the Majors. Each year he does really well down in the minors. He hits, steals and covers alot of ground out in centerfield so why not him?? Go Richie T.!!!

Young certainly has the ML experience, and has done a bunch of pinch hitting. As well, he is a switch hitter, so that helps the lefty-heavy Phils.

Martinez to the OF rotation and Belliard to the IF? Perhaps.

However, Richie’s batting just as well as anybody recently. He would immediately become the best defensive outfielder of the bunch. His ability to run would also help as a late-game replacement/pinch runner. The choice is simple. C’mon Phils. Do the right thing.

If Richie T doesn’t get the call, does he leave like Andy Tracy did ? I know Richie T is from Reading. But, this could possibly be his best opportunity so far.

Nobody from the FO will listen to to what we think, but one interesting thing about Rich’s numbers this year is that he’s hitting 60pts higher (.306/.794 OPS) against lefties this year than righties (.246). Small sample size, less then 100 ab, etc etc but it’s a good place from him to be. While the Phillies are happy with their current lead-off, Rich’s .403 OBP is outstanding …………….like early last year (when he was sent down to Reading) the guy’s having another IL all-star quality year. Come-on Rube and UC, WAKE UP!!! The guy’s a winner.

  8. Whoever it is, I’m guessing Harold Garcia gets moved to the 60 day DL to make room on the 40 man roster. Also keep in mind that if an Ironpigs veteran player goes up he also has to come back down when Victorino returns. That means being Designated For Assignment and having to clear waivers before he can be reassigned to the Ironpigs. And what other reason can the Phillies have for delaying their decision other than a possible trade or waiver transaction? We’re all assuming the guy called up will be from the Ironpigs. Maybe not.

  9. It’s Domonic Brown being called up. Also, David Herndon back up with Mathieson back down.
