I didn’t miss a great game today

I got to see the best part of today’s excitement at The Coke this afternoon… the autograph session with the Ironpig’s team!

I got most of the Pigs autograph and delivered the team signed photo to my 5 yr old nephew for his collection.

Tonight was my older nephew’s high school graduation and I missed the terrible results, which I can’t even bring myself to post tonight.

Good teams are bound to have a terrible loss now and then.. tonight was one of those times.

It’s a factor that we haven’t seen out of the Pigs before. That feeling, that aura of winningness… the away teams coming in gunning to take down the top dog. You see it with any sport. Everyone plays harder to beat the 1st place team and the Ironpigs are no different. It’s one thing to fight to the top of the hill.. and something completely different to defend it when you get there.

Hopefully tomorrow dawns a new day and the Pigs come out swinging to defend the foothold they have on 1st place in the IL.

OinK!

  1. There was one other good thing… B. Gordon getting an IL Pitcher of the Week award.

I know he won it for May 9-15… is this another one?

Not to rain on our parade—but this teams stats are worst than last year. Starting pitching ERA is a full run higher, and starting averages are terrible——how do we win? Must be either the manager or Dan i guess

  3. I heard a rumor that International League president Rand Mobley is in town.. possibly to present Gordon his award. He has only one one Pitcher of the Week award so far.

The team looked flat last night and Durham came to play. It also doesn’t help when your starting pitcher gives up a grand slam in the first inning. It kinda takes the air out of everyone’s balloon.

    Hopefully a better night tonight.

The award Gordon received last night was for being the Pitcher of the Month of May.

I think that Gordon got the Pitcher of the Month award, i could be wrong but i think that was what they were giving him.

  6. attention to detail + hard play + managing to win = actual winning

As far as I’m concerned, everything else in AAA ball is the same. There’s always going to be roster turnover. There’s always going to be “mandates” from the big club.

All hail Mr. Sandberg. I raise my Chicago-style hot dog to you. Also, a cold beer. Is there a beer that is identified with Chicago? Anyone?

    • Speaking of Mr. Sandberg and Chicago, the best line heard yesterday at the autograph signing:

Mike Zagurski to a girl wearing a Cubs shirt, “You know Sandberg won’t sign for anyone wearing a Cub’s shirt…” followed by a look of absolute terror from the girl. It took a few seconds but she realized he was joking and got a good laugh out of it.

      • Nice. Love to hear more about the auto day. My kids’ absolute favourite game of the year. Had to miss it for other baseball obligations (one had a game, the other practice. Lost 16-12. Worst ump ever. I almost pulled a Bonine.)

The beer most identified with Chicago is Old Style.

  7. Luncheon Update:

“No. It’s like a luncheon menu. Not ballpark food at all. Much nicer. I don’t know what’s on it.”

Clear as mud. I’ll keep trying.
