Pigs Win & Pigs Win!

The Pigs took a quick victory over the RedWings tonight and finished a clear 30 minutes before the scheduled fireworks would be sent up. This has happened once before in the past and I was home well before the first shot was fired. Got to check out the new version of the movie True Grit and I have to say I enjoyed it.

The game was nothing much for fireworks though, the game was relatively quiet until the Pigs grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 8th inning and Michael Schwimer came on to close out the game.

Some other notes:

Saw some Twitter activity from Kevin Frandsen who appears to be finished with his suspension. He seems positive about a return but not sure when or where.

There is also a chance that Brian Gordon could start against the IronPigs on either Monday or Tuesday in Scranton. Gordon was sent down to SWB to make room for the returning Bartolo Colon. Come on, like we didn’t see this coming. I can’t say I’ll be rooting for him, or rooting against him. Here’s to the SWB closer blowing the game with a 1-0 Pig win!

Also want to share a funny video from our good friend Bacon & Biscuits. (His video editing ability is far beyond my own) Good stuff! It seemed the crew in Buffalo wanted to have some fun with our bullpen during the “Kiss cam”..

    Re video: NICE!
Re Frandsen: Doogie on TV2 suggested he’ll head for Clearwater to get checked out and worked out, but beyond that, it’s all guessin’.

  2. Did anyone notice how dead on their feet the offense seemed to be until Rich Thompson came into the game? I’m telling you, he needs to be in the starting lineup. He’s the spark-plug on that team! It’s his ability to run and make things happen that gets the ‘Pigs less-than-stellar offense out of the doldrums.

Who would he replace? Frankly, the best thing the Phillies could do right now would be to send Mayberry down to Reading. He strikes out way too much, his hitting isn’t nearly what it should be — especially with men in scoring position — and, frankly, he’s not exactly Charlie Hustle out there. He could use the attitude adjustment, and the ‘Pigs could use Thompson’s abilities every day.

And by the way, how long are the Phillies going to stick with Cody Overbeck before sending him back to Reading? He shows no signs of adjusting to AAA pitching; a decent hit every 20 at-bats proves nothing. Just wondering.

  3. Well, Mayberry’s not going anywhere, except maybe back to Philadelphia the minute an outfielder or 1b gets injured. He seems more consistent to me this season and like he’s taking a better approach at the plate. Room for improvement, to be sure, but more of a pro I think. JMHO.

Overbeck’s gaining acceptance. A couple singles there on the road trip, and then a double in a HUGE spot last night. I’ll give him a bit more time. I wish he were more flexible defensively. BTW, same goes for DeFratus and Aumont. Both have been throwing it better of late. PA had a good couple innings the other night where no one could touch his curve, and DeFratus was downright dominating last night getting the win.

I’m hoping Frandsen’s bat can be the one to help us. Perhaps it will be Overbeck who goes down. We’ll see. One thing we can agree about is Thompson. Richie’s having an outstanding year and I’m appreciating his play more and more. I have to say that I’m disappointed when I show up at the park and find that he’s not starting in center.
