Brian Gordon Korea Bound

As reported by @PhuturePhilz on Twitter, the Yankees have released Brian Gordon’s contract to the SK Wyverns for cash considerations.

Quite a journey Gordon continues to have. Perhaps he will have a following with his new team as Noise Nation does have a presence in Korea.

My first question to this was, “What in the world is a Wyvern?”

Apparently, the Wyvern is a legendary winged reptile with the head of a dragon, the back end of a snake and a barbed tail.

The South Korean Wyverns have seen some success of late. They finished first in 3 of the last 4 seasons and 2nd in 2009.

Wishing Brian Gordon and his family the best! What a great opportunity for his family to travel and experience the world.

Oink! (or whatever sound a Wyvern may make)

  1. So the IronPigs AND Brian Gordon gets screwed! Give the Yankees and “A” in Strategy & Tactics 101. The Wyverns (?) get a great pitcher, we still lose a great pitcher, and the Yankees are no worse off than they were before. In fact, they’re better off because they found an ingenious way to get through an injury to a starting pitcher and royally screw the IronPigs at the same time. No wonder I get migraines.

Wow! Didn’t expect that to happen. Although I had thought NY did do it for a purpose – thought for sure we would see him in the playoffs. Seems as if this was perhaps their plan all along. Just never thought Korea.

And I’m with Jim – maybe we can split a case of Advil?

In other personnel news, Pete Orr was called up after Victorino was placed on the DL retro. to July 4, and in a sidebar, Polanco is being treated for a bulging disc.

  4. 1. Like I needed one more reason to hate the Yankees. Underhanded AL jerks.
    2. Is the Wyvern’s barbed tail attached to a venom sac, like a honeybee? And if so, can it sting more than once? Do they have mascot races and other such nonsense in South Korea? ‘Cos I’m pretty sure that thing could kick the San Diego Chicken’s ass.

If the Yankees were really out to screw the Ironpigs they would have kept Gordon in Scranton where he could continue to pitch against the IL. I wonder if Gordon had an escape clause in his contract if the Yankees did not keep him in the Majors. Regardless, I wish him well.

While I know why, HE DECIDED to go to the Yankees, no one forced him, not the Yankees or Phillies. So if things did not turn out the way he hoped, he has no one to blame but himself. This is another case of people always wanting to blame others for their own shortcomings. HIS DECISION, good luck to him.

  7. Big Brian Gordon fan here. Can’t help to think this is not what he expected when he opted out of his deal with the Phillies and that this may be a literal one in a million type deal. At least he is going to a team that always seems to be in contention in Korea. Hopefully, he can help them win a championship.
