IronPig Game Results 7/20/11 – Pigs Lose.. Again

The Pigs lost to Pawtucket again today by a final score of 1 to 2. The pitching staff held the Pawsox to one run until a walkoff hit gave Pawtucket the win. The IronPig’s lead in the IL North is now down to one game and Pawtucket has the chance to come even with the Pigs tomorrow.

This is not good news Pig Fans. Not good at all. Even if the Pigs pull out a win tomorrow they look forward to 4 games vs Columbus. Also, immediately after Columbus the Pigs will face Pawtucket again at home.

Not good at all.

  1. ..and then two in Moosic; that’s never easy. I’m really Jonesing for some baseball. Three games in two days over the past two and a half weeks just isn’t cutting it. I think I’m gonna have to tailgate tomorrow. That’ll help…

    • replying to my own post:
Looks like my tailgate is getting squashed. The heat is mostly to blame:

My 8yo: “Can’t we just hang out in the air conditioned comfort of the club level?”

yes, he talks like that. and yes, I’m creating monsters. This is the same kid who at 7yo complained (mildly) that we didn’t have club level seats at Reading last year. *sigh* Perhaps we need to spend some time on the lawn.

  2. …and then a trip to Durham. Who ever thought we’d be here a month ago? It appears all the transactions are finally taking their toll. Better now than August. I really don’t like losing Grilli…..

    • Makes you wonder if the very early sale of ‘non-refundable’ playoff tickets was done intentionally to ensure ticket sales in case the Pigs don’t make it to the playoffs.. not accusing, just wondering.

That playoff ticket policy is pretty standard. I know the Phils and Eagles do pretty much the same thing for playoff tickets. Just to get the email was amazing to me after what we have all suffered through for the first 3 years. LET’S ENJOY THE RIDE!!!

i really think the pigs need a head starting picther we lost the two best picthers we had in brain gordan(“he made out well”..not) and vance worley how has been unstoppable in philly i think bass is a good 3rd spot in the rotation but we need a good picther and its weriod how we have 2 frist basemens?(well was 3) but hey i thinck we can trade cody or tagg and get a vetrian for the number 1 spot and for number 2 i thinck they should call up jc ramirez hes been doing great in reading and bass is 3 and 4 i thinck we can improve maybe trade dy cause we have scott p on the dl but is a great player when dy has been laking defence we can ethier trade a get another vetriean and then in 5 ethier bump or brummet but im saying is get vetrians for end of the season and next year we have bump back on track if they sign bass again if they dont jc ramirez can fill the spot and then austin hyit and posbiley jared cosart next year but i thinck the upcoming years and the players like jesse biddle and signton and anthony hewit domingo santana come up and cosart and austin come the pigs well be unstoppable and hopefully next year we well have that pure slugger of matt rizzoti come who is constent and a huge slugget

  5. Welcome, Ben,
I don’t think the powers that be within the Phillies organization are going to do anything to help the IronPigs rotation specifically. True, there could be a FA cast-off signing a la Redding, but the quality won’t be any better than what we have now. We’re going to have to ride with what we’ve got as far as the starting rotation. It’s possible we could get a little help from above when Oswalt and/if Blanton come back from the DL–perhaps Kendrick or Carp or Herndon, but not necessarily for the starting rotation. Anyone want to start looking forward to a 5-game playoff and how many starters we’d need? Not me–let’s make the playoffs, first.

As far as Reading, as Dan said, I don’t think they have anything left that would help us at this juncture–not that we’d want to gut them anymore, either. Ramirez can’t miss a bat, and Hyatt isn’t ready for prime time.

You are correct in your assessment of the system: good talent is on the way up. There is a myriad of things that could stand in the way, though. Should the Phillies make a move before the trade deadline for a right-handed bat or another reliever, it could cost them some of those prospects. Some might get injured and some might not pan out. You just never know. It’ll be fun to watch and see if they get here, though. (not to mention, some might virtually skip LHV if they do really well at Reading–look at how long we had Brown).

I think of Rizzotti as a poor-man’s Andy Tracy. Power, and not as good a fielder. It was him OR Overbeck this year, and Overbeck beat him. CO’s doing better, but you can see the difference between AA and AAA when you look at his numbers and at MR’s numbers last year here. (I know Rizz was injured, but still).
