Per Todd Zolecki on twitter @ToddZolecki, the Phillies have signed Jack Cust to a minor league deal pending a physical.
From 2001 to 2011, Cust has played for the Mariners, Rockies, Orioles, Padres and Athletics.
Between 2007-2009 Cust hit 26, 33 & 25 home runs in each year, respectively.
He was cut by the Mariners on July 29th of this year after hitting .213 with 3 HR in 67 games.
Of note, Cust was named on the Mitchell Report but has denied ever trying or using steroids.
If, or should I say when, Cust is assigned to the IronPigs we can only wonder who loses out in IronPig land. You have Domonic Brown who isn’t going anywhere. There’s Brandon Moss Hogg who leads the team in HR and RBI. Delwyn Young who the Phillies love and then there’s Rich Thompson who all of us fans love. I won’t say it. I don’t even like thinking about who will depart to Reading in this scenario.. but you know it as well as I do.
OinK

Well, the first person who loses is Scott Podsednick… we’ll just see from there.
Better not be Richie T!!! or the Moss Hogg or D. Brown we need these guys for the stretch drive!
JACK CUST—–FORGET THE STATS—LOOK AT THE K’S—I HEARD THE USHER FROM SECTION 115 STRUCK HIM OUT ALREADY
Can he ht left handed pitching?
who? Cust, or the usher from 115? 🙂
Cust, sounds like the usher is a pitcher
Cust is from nearby central NJ. He used to be a favorite of stat heads but his best years are behind him. He is mostly a left field/DH type of player and approaches the game nothing like Rich Thompson. Perhaps the idea could also be to DH Cust, put another current Ironpig at first base and move an Overbeck or Bozied back to a Reading team that is also trying to sell playoff tickets. Demoting Thompson at the same time as announcing a ticket price increase certainly would not please the hard core Ironpigs followers. The move however is probably more about getting an experienced but cheap bench bat for the Phillies after the September call-ups than it is about any concern for either Minor League franchise.
According to @MSchwimer – Jack Cust arrived this afternoon.
