Cubs Dismiss GM – Just One Year for Ryno?

Our resident Cub fan is probably jumping for joy this morning.

News that Chicago Cubs General Manager Jim Hendry has been dismissed by the club. Assistant GM Randy Bush (That name has come up a lot this week) will take over in the interim.

How does this affect IronPig fans? Well, just about EVERY Cub fan I know spit in the general direction of Wrigley field last year when Sandberg was passed over for the Cub’s manager spot. Could we lose Ryno to the Cubs after just one season in Lehigh Valley?

I’d say the chances are very high.

What do you think?

I”m getting that same funny feeling too that this could be it for Ryno in the LHV, especially after what he’s done with the ‘Pigs this season and his other success as a minor league manager. I guess it’s time for Ryno to get his shot. The Cubs made a HUGE mistake not naming him manager and I’m sure the powers to be feel the same way. Only time will tell.

  2. Hate to say it but probably, hopefully we make the playoffs now cause who knows what next year will now bring.

  3. Yes, it very well can happen, probably as soon as free-agent signings begin after the WS, and then we’ll have to agonize till the banquet at DeSales or wherever they hold it to meet the next lucky guy.

  4. Well, I have confidence that the Cubs will find some way to mess this up. 😉

But I certainly don’t begrudge Mr. Sandberg the shot at an MLB skipper position–in Chicago or elsewhere–just like I wouldn’t for any of our players like Gordon or Worley or Schwimer or whomever.

  5. I’m hoping he does get the job offer from the Cubbies and says “Well thanks, but no thanks I’m staying with the very team I started with – you had your chance.”

    Overly optimistic perhaps….

    Time will tell…

  6. Christmas came early this year. 😉 But really, if y’all want, you can keep Ryno for another year, and Quade can stay where he is while we wait for the new GM to toss out Hendry’s trash and build a team worthy of my boy.

  8. Depends how fast the Phillies move. Ryno isn’t exactly a wait-longingly-by-the-phone-for-the-ex-to-call kind of guy, but he and the Cubs have some serious history, and if I were the Phillies, I’d be putting some kind of offer on paper fast, before Hendry’s successor has a chance to blow in his ear and promise to make all his dreams come true if he’ll just come back home….
